SUZANNE SCHMITT...
From her New England beginnings to 25+ years of wandering across America, Suzanne Schmittâs songs interpret and inhabit the lives of the gritty and colorful people that have crossed her path. Suzanneâs writing is inspired by the music she heard and played in coffeehouses and clubs in NYC, Seattle WA, Charleston, SC, and Asheville, NC. She recorded her first CD âWilling to Wanderâ in Charleston in 1993 on Oceansong records (www.oceansongcafe.com). She was a finalist in Charlotte, NC (NSAI) Songwriting Competition in 2002 and 2nd place winner in The Flat Rock Music Festival Hank Williams Songwriting Competition in 2003. Suzanne was also a guest songwriter in the 2005 Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival held anually in the Gulf Shores Fl/Al region.
Suzanne spent time in the mountains of Western North Carolina in the early 90âs where she found the down home, Indie music scene conducive to her musical style. After leaving a short stint in corporate America, Suzanne headed to the hills to write music, nurture her spirit and reflect on the all interesting data she picked up along her travels. Thanks to spending some time in Nashville, TN, her songwriting finally found a comfortable home in the Americana genre.
âLive at the House of Daydreamsâ is the result of a 5 day recording session that occurred in late November of 2005. Gathering some of the brightest musical talent from the Western North Carolina region, as well as the renowned Trapp brothers from Lillian, Alabama, Suzanne and the gang holed up in an old haunted house in Transylvania County to cut the CD. It was recorded and mixed on pro tools by Greg Humphries, founding member of the popular rock/soul band, Hobex (www.hobex.com) and formerly Dillon Fence Band. Greg also lends a few guitar licks to the CD. Other members include: Jery Trapp, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and round neck dobro master, Jim Trapp, subtle percussion, the ever popular Woody Wood on guitar/backround vocals,(www.hollywoodred.com) local favorites, Marc Yaxley on haunting cello, Louis Elliott, inspired harmonica, Rutledge Leland, dancing mandolin, Billy Berger, more mando! and Cindy Sealy, easy background vocals. This CD captures the organic nature of Suzanneâs writing with the acoustic instrumentation and intimacy of a live show. The lyrics are included too, for people who care about the words!
As a result of this great musical moment in history, Suzanne joined forces with Jim and Jerry Trapp to form the band âMoon Shine Babiesâ and recorded an 8 song CD called âLive in Momâs Living Roomâ (available at their live shows). Sarah Trapp, Jimâs daughter, soon joined the band and has added her inspired bass groove to the band. Also, Louis Elliott, and his lively harmonica (Sonny Terry wannabe) has joined in the fun and the band continues to tour and play in the Southeastern US.
