Timothy Jevon McGuire, aka Young Timothy (YT) was born in Tarboro, North Carolina, on January 8, 1981, the second of Timothy Sr. and Sylvia McGuireâs three children. The home where he grew up was always filled with religious songs, to which he loved to sing along. As a preacherâs kid, Young Timothy attended church regularly. It was in the church where he began performing in front of a crowd as a member of his local church choir. During his quiet time or around his friends an appreciation for Hip-Hop music began brewing deep within. Soon the young artist would begin to write down his own lyrics and record them on his karaoke machine at home. While in college he met and joined a rap group founded by producer 9th Wonder, but the fame was short lived due to creative differences.

Although Timothy was surrounded by positive role models, he began to follow a different path and take risks which would lead to many disappointments, hardships as well as, brushes with the law. It wasnât until he found himself on the verge of losing his mind that Timothy began to have a change in heart about the path that he had taken. Eventually he joined a church in the city of Winston-Salem, while attending Winston-Salem State University. It was then that he began to understand the love of Christ in a different capacity. He began spending meaningful time in the word of God, and prayer. Step by step he began to shake off the shackles which were keeping him bound.

One day while driving his car down the road he was reminded of his passion for rap music. It was then that Timothy received a message from God to go forth with producing rap songs as long as he did it to build up the kingdom. Shortly after his personal encounter with God, Timothy was lead to join another church where he met his wife and mother of his two children. It was there that his dream of producing gospel rap was realized. The group Soldiers For God (SFG) was birthed. Shortly after he began to record his first of three albums titled, âEvery Day Like Sunday.â

It is virtually impossible to talk about gospel rap recording artist Young Timothy without mentioning the immeasurable amount of time he devotes to praying and studying the bible in order to hear from God daily. His personality is warm, inviting and his genuine desire for God surpasses his music. His hard work and passion behind the music that he produces has gained the respect and accolades from his cohorts and fans, friends and family.
