If you follow the evolution of pseudo-lesbian acoustic emo-core, you would find the music of singer-songwriter Jeffrey Altergott. Born and raised within earshot of the sprawling Chicago music scene, Jeffrey has been a player in its ranks for over 20 years and continues to win over fans with his supple tenor, modern folk melodies, diverse influences and charming stage presence.

Trying to find the balance between shiny object syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder, this modern absent-minded professor of the independent music scene is solely responsible for all aspects of his music. Altergott designed and built his recording studio; writes and performs his songs; acts as tracking, mix and mastering engineer; represents himself to press and booking agents; manages the distribution of his music and designs his own website.

For the past five years, Jeffrey has primarily sequestered himself in the hermitage of his recording studio. During that time he released his fourth and fifth albums. Donât Be a Stranger (2007) included the song âThank Youâ - featured recently on the soundtrack of the award-winning movie BearCity (2010). His current full-length release, Balloons (2009), contains the Billboard World Song Contest winning track, âDonât Prove Me Rightâ.

Altergott has garnered high praise for his earlier works from the likes of WXRT-FM deejay Richard Milne as a âLocal Anestheticâ capsule pick, the Chicago Reader, the Chicago Tribune and LinuxTag â which handpicked the title track for itâs first OpenSource music compilation CD, released in Europe.

After performing only select regional concerts for most of his career, Jeffrey began touring nationally in the fall of 2010. He will be venturing out on his first tour west of the Mississippi in the spring of 2011 with songwriter Tom Goss.
