Just pure talent! Shanik Hughes isnât only a singer but also excels as an original bilingual songwriter, versatile actress, accomplished musician and dancer Her love for all musical genres was instilled by her Latin mother. Born on October 13 1987 in Mexico City, Mexico, Shanik was exposed to the sounds of great artists and performers such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston Cher, Sting and Duran Duran at a very young age. This early life experience resulted in her interest in performing arts and she started her career as a child model when she was only 3 years old. At that tender age, she already knew what it was like to get up at 3:00 am to be on the set for 5:00 am call time. Since then, She has performed in more than 35 television spots and print ads and worked with clients like Seras, Nestle, Fanta and Sony. As a student at Parkview High School, she graduated with Honors and was the class Valedictorian.
She has fervently continued to concentrate on developing her musical and acting talent and career. Shanik became a student of Manuel Lujan who is also the voice teacher for some of the great talents in the industry such as Linda Ronstadt, Vikki Carr, Christina Aguilera, George Lopez, and Mariachi Cobre. For acting she continues her education through intensive Actors Workshops with some of the top casting directors, talent agents and coaches in the business. To her credit she has attended TVI Studios in Los Angeles, TVI Studios in New York, Actors Workshop in Miami, KVG Acting in Orlando, and Lisa Maile in Orlando have been listed as a few of her favorites where she mastered soap opera techniques.
It was the untamable passion for rhythm that made her the master of different dance forms such as Ballet, Jazz, hip hop, tap, Flamenco, Tango etc. she took piano lessons as well. Shanik translated her ability to mix diverse styles and moods- from emotional ballads to hip-hop infused dance tracks- into songs with tango, flamenco and Arabic flavored undertones. Her determination and dedication helped her write and record her own album. The lyrics of her Popular ballads, âGood Enough for Youâ and âOut of Reachâ reflect the deep emotional sensitivity Shanik infuses into her songs. . âI will waitâ, expresses her anxiety and frustration rooted in a broken intimate relationship whereas the song "Fashionista" introduces the listener to the world of glamour and elegance where the artist displays her fetish inclinations for shoes and clothing designs. Shanik is a big fan of Coco Chanel, Gucci, Hermes, Balmain and other brands that define her style statements.
For Shanik the fans are the fuel. She wants to write the lyrics that her fans can identify with. For her, lyrics should be powerful enough to extol the gamut of human emotions. . Whenever she writes anything, the âtarget populationâ, that is the âfansâ are always the priority. She says, âMy goal is to write music that my fans can identify with, cry with, smile with and even workout to, just as I have been influenced by other phenomenal artistsâ
Shanik is sensitive, affected and concerned about many social issues as well. She says, âGrowing up in Mexico City was not easy and unfortunately, I always saw poor kids on the streets with no shoes begging for pesos to buy food when I knew they should be going to school. It was moments like this that stands out from my early childhood and have inspired me to want to make a difference in children's lives that are less fortunate. " She adds,â I want to create a foundation for kids that have strained home lives, children that have been abandoned in orphanages, teenagers that are pregnant, and give them an opportunity to be educated. I am a big believer in leadership programs to inspire growth, helping others find their passion, follow their dreams and break the cycle. Itâs her goal to create foundations for such children as she believes she can use the power of being a public figure to accomplish those lofty aspirations." Shanik is a dedicated animal lover too. She wants to make important contributions to preserving and safeguarding animal life on earth. Protecting these creatures from the harms the human inhabitants are creating, and last but not least raising awareness to conserve and protect our planet, by doing everything she can to promote the importance of being "GREEN".
