Aethereal, meaning otherworldly or ever changing is a progressive rock band from Jackson, NJ. All five members originated from Jackson and came together as a powerful force. They have won the praise of their peers and placed in the finals of two nine-month âbattle of the bandsâ competitions. Crowds always stop talking, and listen when Aethereal performs, to enjoy Aetherealâs ear pleasing sound. National Recording Artist George Saccal replied with this statement after a first listen, âI am impressed that you guys can produce such an amazing sound at such a young age.â A similar reaction came from a representative at 95.9 The Wrat, when she handpicked the band to open up for Creed at PNC Bank Arts Center in Wratfest 2010. It was unfortunate when she told them they would not be able to play the event since she forgot to verify their age; they needed to be 21 or over to play the Bud Light sponsored event. When the band asked why she didn't verify their age earlier, she insightfully responded, "The music sounded very tight and polished. I didn't expect the people playing to be your age." It was an upsetting downfall, but yet very motivational.
An EP has been produced and released under the title âThe [EP]ic.â This EP is a twenty-minute venture into the true progressive genre, with keyboards playing a major role in depth and flow. A very orchestral outro was added to the end to bring the EP to a close, yet it feels like it brings you back to the beginning. Sales should be considerate since this EP has been in high demand since it was announced.
Aethereal started as a cover band named Catalyst in 2005. In regards to writing their own material, the old lineup struggled to write catchy songs and thus eventually fell apart when two members left for their own desires. Zane Decker (Bassist, Lead Vocals), Dave Rucki (Drummer), and Matt Calabrese (Rhythm Guitarist) were at loss. Zane met Matt Reynolds (Keyboardist) while participating in the pit of Jackson Liberty High Schoolâs theater production, "Little Shop of Horrors". Zane gave Matt Reynolds a call the end of that summer when the band broke up. Matt played keyboards and fit the style well, while Mattâs friend Steve Puccio (Lead Guitarist) filled in for the lead guitar spot after a quick jam session. This band has been playing many shows and has been gaining a fan base since the lineup formed in November 2007. Theyâve changed their name to Aethereal for originality and copyright issues. Many people denied the new name at first, but as time went on, the name grew on people. Those people have learned to accept it as a creative and original title to which the band is described as a whole.
Talent is what makes this band spark. Zane Decker is a natural born bass guitarist. Although he is self-taught, he fully delivers a true finger picking technique that most bassists would need serious lessons to obtain. Steve Puccio learned to play the guitar when he was thirteen. He taught himself the first two years and went on to take lessons for the next three years full time. His practice time and listening skills let him compose wonderful riffs that intensify the band's overall sound. He has also experimented with the self-study that is ear training; enabling him to quickly harmonize any vocal melody on the spot. Matt Reynolds started playing piano at the age of eight; taking lessons full time until he was 18. Matt Reynolds and Steve Puccio work closely to promote the bands progressive sound. They both can write incredibly tricky riffs with odd time signatures or polyphonic choruses and still manage the song to flow flawlessly. Matt Calabrese has also come a long way from working with the band. He completes the band's sound with guitar harmonies and intuitive song writing capabilities, which gives the band that extra edge. Finally, Dave Rucki has been playing drums since the age of three. His grandfather sat him down at such a young age to attain the basics and from there on out he became a very knowledgeable and technically skilled drummer. He hasnât stopped yet as he pounds the double bass and flies through his massive kit. Three drum companies already sponsor Dave: Udrum, SilverFox Drumsticks, and TRX cymbals. All five members work together as a team to create songs that match everyoneâs skills and ideas.
Aethereal's new EP plans to unveil the bandâs true talent, since their past CD was a quest to find out what worked for the band. It was merely an exercise to attain great song writing skills shown in their latest EP. The older songs still were unique enough to get them to the finals of the 9th annual Jersey Shows: Battle of the Bands; showcasing their great potential. Aethereal hopes to profit off of the CD in plans of future merchandise and more CDs. If signed, it would allow more studio work time for a fuller album or an even stronger EP and allow the whole world to know that they truly are⦠Aethereal.
