DEDICATION:
This Album is dedicated to the memories of Bashiriâs Father, Morris L. Johnson and Jahstixâs Grandmother, Florence B. Uwawah née Okotie.
Having grown up in the 60âs and 70âs listening to these classic songs, and having performed on many Holiday albums for artists like Sting, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Williams, Grover Washington Jr., Bette Midler and others, I felt the calling to add my interpretation to these wonderful songs of the Season. Iâm a big fan of the Holiday season, its magic, its wonder and its infectious spirit of peace giving, love sharing, and good will to all. I offer this musical installment as my contribution to that infectious spirit, with the hope for a shift in our consciousness, to bequeath a better world to our children, and to their children.
I wrote âIâll Be Dreamingâ, this albumâs title song for my Father, who never got to hear its completion. Love you Dad!

By Robert Wells, Mel Torme

Music and lyrics were composed by Torme and Wells in 1946. Nat King Cole, a very tough act to follow, recorded the most popular recording of this truly great Christmas song. There is lots of Holiday imagery in the words to this Christmas song, which is truly reflected in one of its lines "from kids from one to ninety-two" which encompass the essence of the family Christmas.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire â¨
Jack Frost nipping on your noseâ¨
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir â¨
And folks dressed up like Eskimos â¨â¨
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe â¨
Help to make the season bright â¨
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow â¨
Will find it hard to sleep tonight â¨â¨
They know that Santa's on his way â¨
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh â¨
And every mother's child is going to spy â¨
To see if reindeer really know how to fly â¨â¨
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
â¨To kids from one to ninety-two â¨
Although itâs been said many times, many ways â¨
Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah to you

The idea of being home for Christmas originated in World War I when soldiers at first thought that the war would be quick and they would return by Christmastime. This inevitably did not happen, hence the line "if only in my dreams"
And this goes out to all the soldiers in the front line
Battles, crosshairs and doing time
We send our prayers and love to honor them
We light the candles in your absence
We decorate the trees and save your presents
We await your return to the home where affections burn
Itâs Time for a shift in our consciousness
Embrace the new openness
Where swords become ploughshares
And people no longer study warfare

I'll be home for Christmas,
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love-light gleams.
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.

This has gone out to all the soldiers in the front line
Fighting in the crosshairs whoâve done time
Weâve sent our prayers and love to honor you
We decorated the trees and saved your presents
Now that youâve returned home where affections burn
There is still time for a shift in our consciousness
To embrace the new openness
Swords become ploughshares
People no longer study warfare

"What Child Is This?" is one of the most moving and beautiful of Victorian carols. Its history can be traced back farther than the days of Henry VIII. It dates from Elizabethan time, possibly even earlier. "What Child Is This?" is a Christmas carol lyrically written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix to the melody of "Greensleeves". Although the chorus changes from verse to verse, many recorded versions simply use the first chorus throughout.
We love to sing Yeah, we love to dance Yeah,
We hope and dream Yeah, giving peace a chance Yeah
We wanna grow Yeah, happy as we go. All Around The World.
We wanna learn Yeah, we wanna reach Yeah,
We want our rights Yeah, have freedom of speech Yeah,
We wanna show Yeah, love is what we know. All around the world.

What Child is this, who laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping.
This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies he in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian fear, for sinners here,
The silent word is pleading.
This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh;
Come peasant, king to own Him.
The King of Kings salvation brings;
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

All around the world.

âIâll Be Dreamingâ¦Till All My Dreams Come True, For Me And For Youâ. I wrote this song as homage to my Dad, who was full of life, and it was inspired by the loving and joyous spirit we all feel and share during the holiday season. My best friend Kashif, lends his warm and rich vocals to this title track.
Iâll be dreaming, Iâll keep believing, Till all my dreams come true
Shining lights all aglow, children are eating snow
Fir trees are all around, itâs holiday time in town
Sharing of peace and love, Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah
Benevolence and good cheer, my favorite time of year
So many celebrations, so many inspirations
So many reasons to make it last
Candles and mistletoe, family and friends you know
Traveling near and far, just to be where you are
Forgiveness and gratitude, people in joyful mood
Caroling, dancing and playing guitar, wishing upon a star
So many celebrations, so many inspirations
Culture from every nation, so many dedications
Tradition and meditations, so many observations
So many reasons to make it last
Iâll be dreaming, Iâll keep believing, Till all my dreams come true, for me and for you

Written originally in Latin, it is known as 'Adeste Fideles'. 'O Come All Ye Faithful', it was penned as a hymn by an Englishman called John Wade. Another Englishman called John Reading composed its music in early 1700s, which was first published in 'Cantus Diversi' in 1751. Rev. Frederick Oakley translated it to English in 1841. Also known as the Portuguese Hymn.
O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him,
Born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above;
Glory to God all
Glory in the highest; Refrain

Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be all glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing; Refrain

'Little Drummer Boy' was first recorded in 1958. It became a smash hit again and again for various artists but the best one was perhaps the rendition of Bing Crosby and David Bowie. The words 'rum pum pum pum' were repeated about 21 times in this song.

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum, When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum, On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum, Me and my drum

By Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne
Lyricist Sammy Cahn and the composer Jule Styne created the wonderful Christmas song in 1945. The words and lyrics of Let It Snow reflect the feeling of warmth and security associated with Christmas and also brings in the more modern customs of popping corn!â¨â¨Due to its seasonal lyrics, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" is commonly regarded as a Christmas song. Yet despite its cheery, holiday feel, it is a love song that never mentions Christmas.â¨â¨
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It doesn't show signs of stopping, And I brought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
When we finally kiss good night, How I'll hate to go out in the storm, Baby
But if you really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing
But as long as you love me so, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

By Johnny Marks
The famous Christmas song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer started life as a poem created by an American advertising executive called Robert May. He was requested to produce a poem that could be given away to children by the Santa Claus employed by Department Stores at Christmas! Working as an Advertising Executive Robert May had a natural flair with words and was able to compose the Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer poem which was specifically designed to appeal to children. This marketing ploy was a massive success and approximately 2.5 million Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer poems were given away in the first year of its publication! In 1949 the singer Gene Autry recorded a musical version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer composed by Johnny Marks.
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer â¨had a very shiny nose. â¨
And if you ever saw him, â¨you would even say it glows. â¨â¨
All of the other reindeer â¨used to laugh and call him names. â¨
They never let poor Rudolph â¨join in any reindeer games. â¨â¨
Then one foggy Christmas Eve â¨Santa came to say: â¨
"Rudolph with your nose so bright, â¨won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" â¨â¨
Then all the reindeer loved him â¨as they shouted out with glee, â¨
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, â¨you'll go down in history!

'Silent Night' was originally penned as a poem by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr in 1816. On Christmas Eve in 1818, the organ at St. Nicholas Church in the small alpine village called Oberndorf had broken. It was at that time, a friend of Joseph Mohr, Franz Xavier Gruber composed the melody of the poem intended for a guitar. Since the simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass, sung there and then, and eventually became one of the most famous of Christmas carols.

Be Silent, Be Holy, Be Peaceful, Be Loving
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born.

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
Be Silent, Be Holy, Be Peaceful, Be Loving

Jingle Bells, one of the most famous American Christmas songs, was originally written for Thanksgiving, author and composer of Jingle Bells was a minister, James Lord Pierpoint who composed the song in 1857 for children celebrating his Boston Sunday School Thanksgiving. The song was so popular it was repeated at Christmas. The essence of a traditional Christmas is captured in the lyrics of Jingle Bells and the sound effects using the bells have become synonymous with the arrival of Father Christmas, Santa Claus and the Holiday Season.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Arguably the best-known Christian hymn is "Amazing Grace." Its text is a poem penned in 1772 by John Newton, describing the joy and peace of a soul uplifted from despair to salvation through the gift of grace. The lyrics to Amazing Grace are based on his reflections on an Old Testament text he was preparing to preach on, adding his perspective about his own conversion while on his slave ship, the Greyhound, in 1748.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,â¨That saved a wretch like me!â¨
I once was lost, but now am found.â¨Was blind, but now I see.
âTwas grace that taught my heart to fear. â¨And grace my fears relieved;â¨
How precious did that grace appear,â¨The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares,â¨I have already come;â¨
âTis grace has brought me safe thus far,â¨And grace will lead me home.

By Isaac Watts
'Joy to the World' is an old Christmas carol penned by Isaac Watts in 1719. Isaac attended Nonconformist Academy at Stoke Newington, was ordained as a Pastor of an Independent congregation and many hymns and carols. In 1728, the University of Edinburgh awarded him the degree of the Doctor of Divinity. The music was adapted and arranged to Watts' lyrics by Lowell Mason in 1839 from an older melody, which was believed to have been written by Handel.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love
