Martin Fabricius & Chris Lavender
Smooth sonic textures and catchy melodies are the key elements of this unique duo comprised of Martin Fabricius and Chris Lavender. As long time friends and collaborators who met as students at the Berklee College of Music, Martin and Chris have honed a specific sound that crosses the production aesthetic of 1970's ECM recordings with the melodic sensibilities of popular European and American folk traditions. The combination of the high and silky sound of the vibraphone with the low and timbrally rich sound of the touch-guitar is a perfect match.
Chris Lavender holds a BA from the Berklee College of Music where he specialized as a mallet percussionist and is currently an MFA candidate at UC Irvine in the Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology program. He has performed professionally as a percussionist and guitarist across North America and northern Europe. He is also an award winning composer and has written music for jazz/rock ensemble, chamber ensemble, string quartets, percussion ensemble, and marching percussion ensemble as well as various video projects. In addition to music performance and composition, Chris also does interactive arts programming via the Max/MSP/Jitter programming environment. Chris currently resides in Southern California with his wife and three dogs.
Martin Fabricius studied the vibraphone with Ed Saindon and Gary Burton at Berklee College of Music where he graduated from in 1996 with a major in film scoring. In 2008, martin released his first CD, When Sharks Bite, which by JazzNyt was hailed as one of the 10 best jazz albums to be released in Denmark that year, and by the news paper Arbejderen refered to as âChamber Jazz of the highest caliberâ. He is an active composer, music educator and performer living in Copenhagen, Denmark
