On the out skirts of Los Angeles with a sound that most would not expect from the city of angels. After 10 years of writing and recording on his own secluded in different apartments across Southern California. Joshua Alan in 2002 started that idea like many others to bring his song and style of writing to the masses by forming "Shadow and Dust" with stage help from friends like Jonothan Albeanu and a cast of always changing people.

Shadow and Dust is not just another spacey folk rock group. They appear out of the sky like a dusty Neil Young record playing over a distance hill top. Taking their cues from the likes of Red House Painters, M Ward, LOW, Sufjan Stevens and Neil Halstead and other modern folk artist thier age. S&D are traveling across old land awaking new spirits at the same time. Joshua Alan the main songwriter behind S&D reaches out with a haunting sincere voice that offers hints of Dean Wareham of Luna, Hope Sandoval, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

In their first year of performing in 2004 they have played all over Los Angeles County and Orange County from the Furthermore artist gallery in Chinatown, Open Bookstore and Songwriters supper club in Long Beach to the Silverlake Lounge, Tangiers and Lava Lounge in LA for repeat visits and Plush cafe in Fullerton, Solart artist gallery in Santa Ana.

Shadow and Dust recently just finished up their first northern tour of 2005 making stops in San Francisco "The Makeout Room", Oakland "The Stork Club", guest studio performance on the "Cool as Folk" at UC Davis KDVS radio show with friends and transplanted LA folk duo "Chris and Thomas" and then onto Reno Nevada's Zephyr Lounge.
This group has covered a lot of new ground on their new journey with a lot of room to grow their wings.
