A fine and welcome debut in the tradition of california singer/songwriters, think of Kate Wolf with a honky-tonk band.
11 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
âSherryâs music is a rewarding listen. With fresh melodies and believable lyrics, Iâll have to include it in my road trip collection. Cool voice, also!â
âGrammy-winning producer/musician Lloyd Maines
âSherry Austinâs material has the rough-hewn sensitivity of a Robert Earl Keen, a Fred Eaglesmith or a Slaid Cleaves. But her powerful, clear voice adds a feminine dimension that is totally fresh. Sheâs got such a great voice. People listening across the country are going to get a whole new feel for a popular form because itâs coming from a womanâs perspective.â
âTom Miller, booker, Henflings International Folk & Acoustic Concert Series
A relative newcomer to the acoustic Americana scene, Austin earned respectful notices for her debut album Drive By Romance, a down-to-earth, rootsy collection of philosophical ballads, thoughtfully detailed story songs â many about cars or characters on metaphorical journeys â and covers of influential songwriters like Gillian Welch and Slaid Cleaves. She and her band have earned more fans opening shows for John Hiatt, Jesse Winchester, Robert Earl Keen, David Bromberg, Iris Dement, and Slaid Cleaves. Not too shabby for someone who started writing songs just a few short years ago.
Sherry's second CD, Drive On Back, is now available. Go to: http://cdbaby.com/cd/sherryaustin2
Notable Airplay includes:
* KPIG, Freedom, CA top 40 rotation, May and June 2003. I Wouldnât Lie to You from the Compilation, Take Me Home, put into rotation in March, 2006. Sherry is a regular on KPIGâs Please Stand By live show every Sunday.
* NPR- Car Talk, Baby Blue Bonneville, Howâs the Mustang Running, 455 Rocket
* KRCL, Salt Lake City Drive-by Romance CD of the week June 2003
* Folkscene, taping with Roz and Howard Larman. Broadcast in 3-06.
Sherryâs skills at writing and performing have earned her awards from Billboardâs Songwriting Contest, Northern California Songwriter Association (NCSA), and she was the first place winner in the Songwriting Competition, sponsored by MARS Music in 2004.
A San Francisco native, Sherry grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her move to the wooded Santa Cruz Mountains was "the best thing that ever happened to me" and to lovers of honest Americana music and honey-drenched voices, as well.
