FOLK: Traditional Folk, COUNTRY: Western

Details:
An accomplished singer and songwriter known for her performances in Great Britain, France, and Canada, Cilla wrote the music for some of the earliest and most beautiful of Bob MacKenzie's songs while Canadian country singer Hank Secord's recordings helped preserve some even earlier songs.

In 1972 and 1973, songwriter and performing folk artist Cilla set to music several poems by Bob MacKenzie. During the same period, Bob MacKenzie wrote lyrics for several of Cilla's compositions. During 1973, four of these songs were recorded by Bob and Cilla in the studios of Sarnia, Ontario, radio station CHOK, with Cilla playing guitar and singing. A fifth song by this duo was recorded and released in 2001 by North Carolina songwriter and recording artist Alysson Light. Several of their other songs have been recorded by the folk music ensemble Poem de Terre while others remain unrecorded.

In 1966, while working in Camrose, Alberta, at CFCW, Canada's first 24 hour country music radio station, Bob MacKenzie wrote three country songs which he recorded in the station's studios with Canadian country singer Hank Secord playing guitar and singing.

All seven of these songs eventually made it into the repertoire of the eclectic Canadian folk music ensemble Poem De Terre, performed over the past twelve years both in live concerts and on the group's CD releases.

This new release gives listeners a chance to hear the earliest, simplest recordings of these folk and country songs.
