This is the second CD for the talented pianist and is a distinct departure from his instrumental debut recording, Request for Romance, which presented new arrangements of standards. In contrast, Crying Sky Blue features six original compositions and three cover tunes, including a spirited rendering of Neil Youngâs âSugar Mountainâ. The CD features Laneâs lush piano intros and distinctive soloing along with powerful and poetic playing from Seth Kibel on sax and flute, plus guest artists Justine Miller (horns), Christian Josi (vocals), and New York City session man, Jim Snidero (alto sax).

Crying Sky Blue has been welcomed by radio. Dave May of WHFC 91.1 FM comments, âThis rewarding CD has variety and surprising moments, and will appeal to the straight-ahead jazz listenerâ. Sean has been a big supporter of the Annapolis Arts Alliance, having developed âThe Soul of an Artistâ presentation during Artworks 2006. His ensemble, Bay Jazz Project, can be seen across Washington, Baltimore, and on the Delmarva Peninsula playing festivals, clubs, and private events. This innovative group features multi-talented Seth Kibel, Bob Abbott on upright bass, and Mark Lucas on drums.

âThe songs on this album relate to my influences, especially while growing up,â Sean said. He recalled hearing his fatherâs jazz records as a child and attending live jazz piano performances at a local restaurant.

âI feel I have something to say through music,â Sean continued. âI really try to surround myself with talented musicians who have something to say too. Together we have a good time performing and we make it fun for the audience as well.â
