Randy Burk and the Prisoners is definitely a high energy house-rockin' band that serves up a full plate of musical flavors and still leaves the audience wanting more!
The band focuses on ripping out original alternative country and rockabilly, bringing the essence of Americana into the limelight. Leading the way, Randy Burk is a singer who shows outstanding passion by making his voice generate sweetness or raw power on command. On the keyboards, Jared Hall rocks with exciting and flamboyant boogie-woogie sounds, evoking memories of "The Killer". Roy Cashman, whether on the electric guitar or lap steel, tears up the stage with his dirty guitar sounds. Nate Runkel brings out the foundation of the music by plunking the upright or slapping the electric bass. Like a steaming locomotive, drummer Dave Andrews throws out the most intricate rhythm sounds with intense precision and drive.
As a singer/songwriter, Randy Burk delivers excellence to the world of stage performance. Growing up in the small community of Atlantic, Iowa, he has worked for over ten years building an energetic and soulful style of performance.
Burk has recorded albums in Nashville and in Springfield, Missouri with Jimmy Tittle, Marty Stuart, and Johnny Cash. His performing experience has led him everywhere from Reno to New York City, playing in bars, fairs, festivals, songwriter showcases, and many other venues. He has appeared as a solo artist and with musical groups, opening for such acts as BR549, Brian White, and Johnny Cash. His vocal influences range from Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, and Elvis and counts rockabilly, roots country, rock, gospel, and rhythm and blues as his stylistic inspirations.
Other accomplishments include being Missouri's Most Eligible Bachelor for "Cosmopolitan Magazine" and appearing on the FOX Television special "Sexiest Bachelor in America."
The band continues to write new music and tour throughout the Midwest, including Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, and numerous places in between. They have released their first CD, a self-titled work featuring seven original tunes. They have recently shared the stage with artists such as Big Smith, The Clumsy Lovers, Brother Trucker, Rambler 454, Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys, and the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash.
We are proud to say that Jimmy Tittle and David R. Ferguson, who engineer and work on many of Johnny Cash's recordings; including his latest album "American IV: The Man Comes Around", mastered our recent CD. Guest musicians include Mark Bilyeu from the band Big Smith, Sheri Hurst from the band Honky Tonk Chateau, John Wynn, Mark Carr, Dean Holman, Fred Netzer, Bill Melton, and Jimmy Tittle. Recorded at Honky Chateau Studios in Springfield, MO.
