Smother Magazine says, âEerie and yet brilliant, this is a dub album, an IDM joint, and an electronic hip-hop masterpiece. The new sounds of urban defined.â
14 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Trip Hop, HIP HOP/RAP: Alternative Hip Hop
Details:
Polyphonic the Verbose creates sound-forms blasted by futureshock: surreal politically charged cut and paste. Understood as code, the static-filled hip-hop, experimental electronic music and dubbed out reggae signify a maze; an attempt at unbelievably detailed sonic architecture.
Polyphonic, aka Will Freyman, studied classical European piano as a child and went on to perform jazz trombone, Indonesian gamelan music and medieval European choral music. He spearheaded a number of group recordings on the Audio 8 label, including 's Dolce Stil Nuovoâs 2001 album Infrastructure, 2003's Certain Sound, and in 2004, Prostitute Karaoke. In 2005 he executive produced Pugslee Atomz's Playing With Matches. Other production work of his has appeared on Galapagos4 Records, Birthwrite Records, and Highpoint Lowlife Records. Polyphonic also produced music for the George Coates Performance Works Theater in San Francisco and for the independent film Sufi Lunacy, which opened in 2004 in New York.
In late 2005 his first solo album Abstract Data Ark was released on Audio 8, featuring guest appearances by Psalm ONE (Rhymesayers), Serengeti (Day by Day, Audio 8), Nico B (Audio 8), Benjamin Lamar (A Filial), and Marty Mar (A Filial, Quinto Andar).
Most recently Polyphonic the Verbose co-produced Wick's debut album Lost In Thought, released March 2006 on Audio 8. He has also recorded the album Don't Give Up with Serengeti, which will be released on in late summer 2006. Currently, Polyphonic is working on his next solo release Post Species Speaker, which he says is about "animal communication and species-centrism."
Praise for Polyphonic:
"An onslaught of smoky-lounge-urban cool ... the future of hip-hop"
- Underground Sound Magazine
Lounge IDM that will make the proudest members of the downtempo community blush. âRumors of a Warâ ignites you with its reggae dub beats and rhythm while âEmperor Titusâ is rangy with its percussion and noise collaging. Eerie yet brilliant, this is a dub album, an IDM joint, and an electronic hip-hop masterpiece. The new sounds of urban defined.
