A Band In Progress...
Parlour Steps are a musical group of four friends who find themselves creating something new: Thought-Rock! Within the modern, popular landscape, this finds them in the ranks of emotional rockers Arcade Fire and The Weakerthans, creating thoughtful and mature sonic environments, unafraid of asking big questions and taking musical risks.
Formed five years ago in coastal Vancouver, Canada, Parlour Steps were originally brought together to provide cabaret and scene accompaniment for theatre; new scripts and fringy, cutting edge pieces. From that early, eclectic point, a more mature, unified voice has emerged, garnering local acclaim in publications such as The Georgia Straight, The Vancouver Courier, The Vancouver Sun, and Terminal City Weekly. Radio play on CBC and university stations, such as Vancouver's CITR and Victoria's CFUV, have seen Parlour Steps charted in the top fifty played and requested artists in their format many times over.
The year 2005 has seen Parlour Steps release their third full-length record, The Great Perhaps, an exhilarating piece of art and beauty said through a loud tube amplifier. This is music that is melodic and dramatic, playful and stormy. With a love and experience of cool jazz, art-damaged rock, and spacey experimentation, Parlour Steps aim to try something new; to test the boundries of musical expression yet still create a sound that makes you want to smile and move.
The coming months will see Parlour Steps touring down the West coast of North America in support of their third full-length, The Great Perhaps. Early 2006 will have them touring across Canada, hitting all the major festivals and Canadian music highpoints. Wherever exciting new music is made, Parlour Steps will venture to take part.
