Our Own Way - Vol. III

This is the third CD of the "Our Own Way" trilogy. It features many of the artists found on the first two volumes, with the addition and introduction of Wayne Anderson on guitar. Wayne is our current guitarist in our active performing/recording group.

Wayne Anderson can be heard on "Take Five" in a different treatment of the Paul Desmond/Dave Brubeck standard. Paul Smith is playing a six-string electric bass strung with two higher strings, enabling him to maintain the bass part while adding some higher comping figures. Paul's arrangement also features a different rhythmic treatment for the odd-metered 5/4.

Guitarists:
--Adam Levy [Nora Jones] is featured on five tracks.
--Brad Buethe is on three tracks taken from a live club video.
--Our two Brazilian guitarists: Carlos Oliveira and Ary Piassarollo have one song each.
--Michael Bluestein, pianist, is heard again on piano on three tracks. He will also be heard on our "Chestnuts" CD.

The last song on this album is Moacyr Santos' "Nana", the most recorded of Moa's songs. Sheila sang it with Moa on his Blue Note release "Maestro". We have written our own arrangement of it in the "mojo" rhythm developed by Moa, but never used for "Nana." Obrigado, Pai Moa.

Since this trilogy, we have added a drummer to complement Sheila Smith's percussion. This expanded orchestration can be heard on our "Chestnuts - a collection of Standards" to be released on CD Baby in the Fall of 2005.
