PINEHURST KIDS

âPinehurst Kids surpass the bulk of their contemporaries in the easy-sounding power pop genre by way of passion, energy, and, most importantly, talent.â âThe Stranger: May 2001

With Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Joe Davis at the helm, Pinehurst Kids have established a solid presence in the national college music scene, and show no signs of slowing down.

"Joe Davis plays like a man who fears the end could come any minute. His bandmates possess the same frantic pop grind as Superchunk, as well as the choirboy sweetness of Sunny Day Real Estate. The music's frail and fresh, and it goes by at 90 miles an hour." --Alternative Press; July 1999

In terms of experience, Pinehurst Kids aren't exactly kids anymore. By 1997, Joe Davis had escaped his childhood haunts of Pinehurst and Boise, Idaho and moved to Portland, Oregon where he began crafting high-energy pop songs. With the addition of Caleb Gates on bass, it wasn't long before Pinehurst Kids recorded at Portland's Jackpot! studio. Initially the band's intent was to make a demo to give to friends and clubs. With a bit of borrowed cash for mastering and manufacturing, their self-released debut Minnesota Hotel hit the streets.

" . . . a very impressive piece of work...as infectious and as insistent a collection of power chords as anything I've heard this year . . . grinding up folks as disparate as Weezer and Nirvana and fusing them together in a pabst-fired kiln."
--John Chandler; The Rocket, issue no. 262

Minnesota Hotel established Pinehurst Kids as a recognizable sound on the indie music scene. The bandâs sophomore effort, Viewmaster charted in the top 10 of the CMJ and recieved glowing press attention from everyone from Alternative Presss to Entertainment Weekly and accolades from industry big wigs and buddyhead bad boys alike.

Bleed It Dry, which hit stores in May 2001 features the mixing skills of John Goodmanson, whose credits include Harvey Danger, Sleater Kinney, Unwound, and Blonde Redhead. Larry Crane, known for his work with Elliot Smith, Quasi, the Go-Betweens, and Sleater Kinney, produced and engineered the record. This is the bands best sounding and most adventurous record.

The Kids have toured the entire US extensively, done countless west coast tours and played shows with the likes of Guided By Voices, Built To Spill, Death Cab For Cutie, Alkaline Trio and Superchunk. Their music can be heard on Fox and NBC TV programs including Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As the band approaches it's second decade of rock, they continue to kick out the jams that fans of the band have come to love.
