Details:
Mike Pek - Singer/Songwriter www.mikepek.com

Mike Pek is an independent, New Jersey-based singer-songwriter and musician whose work echoes some obvious folk/rock influences, including Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, and Counting Crows, to name a few. Since 2002, Mike has been performing regularly at various NJ venues including The Underpass (Elmwood Park), The Internet Café (Red Bank), and Luna Stage (Montclair), where he hosted "Songwriters in the Round," a series featuring an eclectic mix of local songwriting talent.

A firm believer in the longstanding tradition of music for social causes, Mike is always eager to participate in benefit shows. He has been featured in several charity events benefiting the Tomorrow's Children's Fund, and in 2003, he joined such high-profile acts as Pat DiNizio (The Smithereens) and Jen Chapin at the Forward Festival, a day-long music event which raised money for the North Jersey Food Bank. In 2002, Mike had the honor of performing at the closing ceremonies of the Family Assistance Center for 9/11 victims in Jersey City - delivering a rendition of his song "AC/DC in Heaven," a personal tribute to a close friend and band member lost in the 9/11 disaster. Lyrics to this song have since been published in Sounds of Silence: Remembering the Heroes, Victims & Survivors of September 11, 2001.

While much of Mike Pek's inspiration stems directly from personal experience, his style could best be described as deeply introspective. At the same time, there is a strong narrative component in most of his songs, as he conjures up visceral images and universal memories, as well as specific events and realistic characters.

Produced by Brian Fitzpatrick, the new record features guest appearances by a host of talented NJ/NY musicians including Ed Fritz (Scarecrow Collection/The Brian Fitzpatrick Band), Rich DiCicco (Jimmy Vigilante), Jay Forsythe (The Dirty Doves/The Brian Fitzpatrick Band), and Elena Doroftei (Ghost Orgy).
