Details:
Firmly rooted in the musical traditions of folk and Americana, the music of Peter La Grand is both familiar and unique. Though his songs echo the heritage of such musical luminaries as Crosby, Stills, and Nash and Cat Stevens, and bear comparison with such contemporary artists as Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) and Sufjan Stevens, La Grand's music is set apart by a deep and passionate lyricism, unique instrumentation, and a straight-forward style of performance.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, La Grand was influenced early on by the music in his brother's record collection: among others, the Beatles, Dire Straits, and Van Morrison. Due to the nature of his parents' careers, a majority of his formative years were spent in transition, living in such places as Halifax, Switzerland, and throughout Midwestern America. La Grand started playing the guitar in high school, and soon began writing his own songs. At the age of twenty, he bought a van, traveled across America, and performed wherever he could.

In the following years, La Grand devoted a majority of his time to providing support for numerous bands and solo artists. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, La Grand plays guitar, Dobro, lap steel, banjo, and an eclectic mix of percussion instruments. La Grand's former band, Bunkbed Nights, shared bills with-among others-Broken Social Scene and Crooked Fingers. Backed by his extensive studio experience, La Grand was a founding member of Dynamite Sound Project in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and spent time working on a number of recordings, including projects by David Wilcox.
