Description:
Hard swinging straight ahead piano trio jazz
12 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo
Details:
This is an unpretentious, classic set of high-quality mainstream modern jazz. (Piotr Michalowski, SEMJA Update, April 1999)
This release is "Sweet" Pete's first recording as the leader of his trio consisting of Johnny O'Neal (formerly of Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Ray Brown) and bassist Paul Keller. Siers has been on the Ann Arbor jazz scene since the late 80's, when he and bassist Keller arrived. Together the two formed the rhythm section for Keller's then-new Bird of Paradise Orchestra.
Siers, again with Keller, gained national exposure working with guitarist Russell Malone, and both are featured on Malone's CD, "Black Butterfly." A multi-faceted swing percussionist, Siers has taken the drummer's stool for many national jazz performers who've come through town, including Mose Allison, Barry Harris, Mulgrew Miller, Frank Morgan, James Moody and the late Doc Cheatham. He can bang with the best of them, but his work with his own trio proves he's among the best at his craft.
