Excellent indie Canadian power pop compareable to artists such as late 70s/early 80s Elvis Costello, Sloan playing with Chicago(lots of horns in here), The Oohs, some "Pinkerton"-era Weezer and OK GO.
11 MP3 Songs
POP: Power Pop, ROCK: 60's Rock
Details:
âBetter Daysâ is the new CD from Winnipeg-based indie-rock act The Perms. Released on November 2005, the 11-track recording contains a mix of high-energy rock anthems and melodic power pop gems.
âItâs solid pop and extremely infectious from the hard-driving back-beat of Bring You Down to the chunky Letâs Not Fight, or anywhere else the laser hits the disc.â (The Daily Press)
âBetter Days is yet another brilliant offering from Winnipegâs bursting pop-rock scene.â (Soulshine.com)
Produced by Lloyd Peterson (The Weakerthans, Greg McPherson) and Neil Cameron (The Watchmen, Christine Fellows), the final product is what Cameron calls a blend of âmodern rock and a taste of Motown groove.â
âTheir songs are loaded with hooks and powerful arrangements.â
The group writes about real life experiences that are both serious and more light-hearted. Most of the album was road tested in bars from Montreal to Victoria before being recorded. The result is an album full of well-crafted songs with head-turning changes and super melodic choruses.
The bandâs sophomore album Clark Drive was an instant hit with college radio. The discâs opening track âSong For Dâ received extensive airplay in the UK and was a local favorite in Manchester.
The Perms debut album Tight Perm was paid for from money bassist Shane Smith received from breaking his leg in a freak accident at his high school. The albumâs first single âLove at First Sightâ became the bandâs first video and propelled the band from their basement to clubs and festivals across Canada.
