Covin is a band with an emphasis on classic rock and roll with some catchy modern punk/metal hooks. Their music bolsters a dark image; but just a bit left of shadowy, with a tongue-in-cheek smirk

ROCK: Punk, ROCK: Glam
Details:
New Haven, Connecticut's Covin is a new and upcoming rock band with an emphasis on classic rock and roll with some catchy modern hooks. Their music bolsters a dark image; but just a bit left of shadowy, with a tongue-in-cheek smirk. For fans of The Misfits, Alkaline Trio, and My Chemical Romance, Covin plays it there way without sounding or looking like a gimmick. Covin plays smart, punchy-punk with having a loving nod for metal riffs.
Covin is a band formed out of the ashes of two New Haven-based bands. Covin began with Chris Beaudette, singer and guitarist of Rise from the Ashes â which hasnât played together since 2002 â and Eric Schrader of Grover Dill, which back in September 2004 ended its eight-year run. Since Halloween â04, the two have been writing and recording by themselves in a cabin, literally. "I wasnât sure how soon Iâd start up playing music again," says Schrader. "Iâve known Chris since we were in high school; one of my first shows was seeing his first band, Nitrous-Oxide, at the Melebus Club in New Haven. I was a punk kid; he was a metal kid. Now in our adult life, weâre trying to write rock songs together. Iâd never image this happening." Covin (asbestosrecords.com), now with their complete line-up; the beautiful Jaxi Zundell on bass/backing vocals and Jon Rowold on drums (ex- Father Panic Riot Orchestra) have been producing smart, punchy punk rock with a loving nod toward metal guitar riffs. The cover art and the songs have a dark veil over them. The music bolsters that imageânot mopey and stupid, just a bit left of shadowy, with a tongue-in-cheek smirk. âMiss Dominatrixâ works, and the breakdown in âToo Hot to Breatheâ is pretty freakinâ hard. The band tosses in a slower, melodic tune âDriveâ at the end that fits in, too. The record is well-mixed, with a big sound. (Recorded at Dexterâs Lab Recording LLC âMilford, CT)
