Picking up guitar in the 5th grade, Shane Reed built a mercury-switch-gravity-activated guitar case alarm for the next year's Science fair. He got a B- when his guitar was actually stolen from the venue. Cosmo Speedway was formed years later with old classmate and best friend, Nick Grosvenor, who nearly missed expulsion from grade school for dancing on the keys of Mrs. Shaumâs baby grand piano. The pair taught each other the fundamentals of songwriting as well as photography, painting, drawing, and filmmaking. Two bands emerged from their friendship - Wilderness Survival and Cosmo Speedway. Both sophomore albums were written and recorded in 21 days on the same console. The event was logged in a feature documentary titled, â21 Days.â
