Singer-songwriter and pianist Corrinne May spent her childhood Christmases in tropical Singapore. No snow or snowmen ever crossed her path. Hence, this Cradle-Catholic was forced to reflect on the real reason for Christmas whilst carolling with her churchâs kids choir.
2006âs âThe Giftâ is Corrinne Mayâs first Christmas album. In it, she covers traditional Christmas carols with refreshingly new and surprising arrangements. âSilent Nightâ has the feel of a ballad from a Japanese anime and âHark The Herald Angels Singâ bounces along like an Irish reel and jig. Featured musicians include Eric Holden on bass (Josh Groban, the BoDeans) , Craig Macintyre on drums (Josh Groban, Vertical Horizon) and Helik Hadar (engineer, Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux).
She has released two prior albums, 2001âs introspective âFly Awayâ which critics embraced âMay's voice is instantly intoxicating - beautiful and adeptâ (Performing Songwriter Magazine) and 2005âs âSafe in a Crazy Worldâ which went to #1 on the Singapore Music Charts for 2 weeks straight. Her songwriting partnerships have included legendary singer-songwriters Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager with whom she wrote the piano-ballad âIf You Didnât Love Meâ.
Corrinne May spends her days writing songs and sipping Darjeeling Kalimpong tea at the neighbourhood Peets Coffee House. She lives with 2 cats and her music- producer husband in Los Angeles.
