13 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Pop, COUNTRY: Country Folk
Details:
Cabin Fever NW is the female folk duo Dianne Bochsler and Tara Wolfe. In true folk music tradition, their compositions reflect all aspects of the human spirit, including pain, joy, doubt, love and loss. Their vocals are enchanting; Dianne's down-home country alto and Tara's breezy, smooth-as-silk lower range blend together as though they were born to sing with one another.
âThese women arenât trying to write songs like someone else, though they have obviously been listening to a lot of fine bluegrass, old-time and folk musicians. Despite their respect for the best these traditions have to offer, they have had the courage to sing their own stories, and the honesty is never more than I can take, and always leaves me wanting more,â says producer Ginny Snowe.
âWhen Tara and Dianne sing their original songs, I have the feeling Iâve heard them all my life, but am just growing into them. They are both familiar and fresh at the same time, the instrumental arrangements elegant in their simplicity, the lyrics so often speaking to my condition. I either feel Iâve been there, or I am there, or I want to be there,â says Snowe.
Dianne plays acoustic guitar and Tara plays old-time banjo. Accompanied by acclaimed guitarist John Miller and engineered and mastered by Paul Turpin at Bayside Recording in Bellingham, this release showcases new and vintage folk songs. Except for songs by Alfred Karnes and Charles Albert Tindley, all are originals written by Wolfe and Bochsler.
Dianne and Tara believe that women have a network of friendships - sisters in blood or spirit - with whom their lives are intimately shared, making everyday experiences richer and more deeply understood. This deep-level friendship is reflected in their music, with Dianne and Tara's voices and instruments supporting each other in the telling of their stories.
"The Door Is Always Open" is the third recording by Cabin Fever NW. In 2003, Cabin Fever's first compact disc (a four song demo) received an honorable mention from the Bellingham Herald as the year's best local recording. The following year the group released "Spring Thaw," a collection of 15 cover songs, with back-up from musicians such as John Reischman (mandolin), Laurel Bliss (resonator guitar) and Mick Schway (fiddle).
Performances by Cabin Fever NW have met exuberant audiences across Washington State and in Oregon. Their songs cover the range of human emotion, and their lyrics are infused with nostalgia and feeling. There is space in their music to bring your own voice and heart.
