Making the first album was really just a matter of making a dream - recording our own album- materialize. There was no real theme or concept we were trying to get across. We sat down with our producer and just listened to what he had going on and in his archives, and just vibed to different beats. That's one reason why the songs on the cd all kind of have their own "thing" going, because we didn't want to set an agenda, or get caught up in trying to be this or that. If something about the music moved us and made us want to write, then that's what we did. It was important to feel that spark, instead of just deciding yeah we need to have this kind of cut or that kind of cut. At the least, that way our response would be authentic and natural to what we were feeling in the moment, instead of contrived and calculated, it would be just "Skills no Gimmicks", like the title of the album says.
