About Julie Lyonn Lieberman:
Julie Lyonn Lieberman is an eclectic styles violinist and vocalist, who specializes in playing healthy techniques as well as improvisation and American vernacular and world styles. She has helped build 21st century string education over the last thirty+ years through her work as an educator, author, radio producer, composer, recording artist, journalist, and performer.
Ms. Lieberman is the author of eight music books, six DVDs, two National Public Radio series, and over fifty magazine articles. She is also the co-author of ASTA Curriculum: Standards, Goals, and Learning Sequences for Essential Skills and Knowledge in K-12 String Programs for American String Teachers Association.
A dynamic, participatory clinician, she has presented for programs such as The Carnegie Hall Link-Up Program; âThe Academyâ at Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall, Juilliard; Juilliard MAP Program; Juilliard L&M; Eastern String Educator Workshop at Villanova; The National String Workshop; The International String Workshop; ESTA: European String Teachersâ Institute; IAJE: International Association for Jazz Educators Conference; colleges and universities throughout America, and for MEA: Music Educators and ASTA: American String Teachers Associationâs State & National conferences.
Parallel to her contributions to the string world, Julie Lyonn Lieberman has been a major proponent in the âplaying healthyâ movement for all musicians. Her internationally critically acclaimed book, âYou Are Your Instrument,â came out in 1991; it was one of the first resource books for injured musicians. Since then, Ms. Lieberman has created four spin-off DVDs for string players, vocalists, and instrumentalists, and has worked with thousands of injured musicians in the U.S., Canada, and abroad in master classes and one-on-one.
Lieberman is a J.DâAddario Elite Clinician and is the Artistic Director for Duquesne Universityâs summer program, Strings Without Boundaries. Her eclectic-style scores are published by Alfred Music and Kendor Music, and her books and DVDs are distributed by Hal Leonard.
Ms. Liebermanâs national educational environmental project, The Green Anthem, offers a free eco-music curriculum to music educators (www.greenanthem.org). MENC ran aspects of her program nationwide during 2010, including the use of Ms. Liebermanâs choral arrangement of âThe Green Anthem,â in The Worldâs Largest Concert, reaching an estimated six million.
