I got inspired to write this song during the 2008 presidential elections. It was on the night that Barack Obama was giving his victory speech after the North Carolina primary. I was so impressed by the way he tries to reach across party lines and actually get things done, I had to write about it! It was so funny to me because I've never been inspired to write anything political before...but there's a first time for everything, I guess.
Anyway, as soon as I had the song done, I recorded a couple little You Tube videos for it, which you can see at www.youtube.com/haff66. But, it wasn't until this Summer that I was able to get the musicians together and get into the studio to record a professional version of it. I worked with some great musicians, Jeff Hansel (and his daughter Emily!), Josh Kramer, and Jim Glay. We recorded at Audio Wall Studios right here in Lombard, Illinois. I am so happy at the way this song turned out and I am really hopeful that I will be able to get it out there to a wider audience now that I have a good recording of it. My favorite part of the song it where out little 'crowd' answers back, 'Yes We Can!' at the end of each chorus. I know alot of people will say that I'm being too optimistic at a time when so many people are frustrated by the slow progress of Obama's plan. But, I think that now more than ever, we need to be patient and try harder to work together... Let's stop arguing and get some more things accomplished for this country. We've got some good things done already-we really need to keep it going!
