Details:
Mr. Rippa was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on October 15, 1985. He is of Jamaican and Saint Lucian descent. He was raised by his mother but maintained a very close relationship with his father. Mr. Rippa had many musical influences within his family; His dad is a Poet, also a Calypso and Soca song writer/producer who spent a lot time in studios collaborating with several artists. His uncle was a DJ and also worked at a local record shop known as (Mello Music.) in Scarborough, Ontario in the 80âs.
At the early age of 13, Mr. Rippa started rapping; he recorded his first studio single called âMind What You Doâ at the age of 14. He later developed a grand interest in Producing/Audio Engineering. He then ventured into DJâing at clubs and house parties in the Scarborough and Toronto area. Some of his musical influences include: Bob Marley, Necus Famous, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Ward 21, Wu-Tang, Mr.Vegas, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Nas, Sizzla, Capleton, and Wayne Wonder.
Mr. Rippa a man of many talents went on to do promotion work for the clubs in the Toronto entertainment district. He later teamed up with Spit-Online. One of his most successful showâs was âStop the Violence Concertâ at Le Scratch in Oshawa, Ontario. Other performers included: Don Million, Thrust, Lindo P, Ammoye, Rich London, Brassmunk, Sample King and Farley Flex as the host. With help from local promoter Grant Haire, they were able to obtain sponsors such as Rogers Television, Flow 93.5, City TV and Durham College Radio.
Mr. Rippaâs love affair with music continued into the new millennium. In 2000 he started a Toronto based hip-hop group named âMSBâ (Movements, Struggles, and Bullshit). The group consisted of three members, Magiva, Stixx and Mr.Rippa (known at the time by the stage name Birdie). With Stixx dropping out of the group, the two remaining members went on to perform at many radio and industry talent shows throughout Toronto, hoping to accomplish Mr. Rippaâs goal of becoming a successful recording artist. In 2003 a new member joined by the name of Gamble A.T.A.C, the group decided to change their name in 2004 to The Track Rippas. Mr. Rippa then released his first official mix tape titled âBasement to the Streets: Volume 1, featuring the group. It sold over 1000 copies mostly through direct marketing. The Track Rippas broke up shortly thereafter. This prompted his name change from Birdie to Mr. Rippa in 2005. In 2006 Mr. Rippa released another mix tape independently, selling another 2000 copies. In total he has released 6 full length mix tapes with over 10,000 copies sold worldwide in the last 5 years. Mr. Rippa is also featured on over 21 mix tapes and DVDâs worldwide.
Mr. Rippa made the decision to focus his energy on being a permanent recording artist. His songs (A Library of over 200 recorded songs) can be heard on many internet radio stations, mix tapes and stage performances. Mr. Rippa has been the opening act for artists such as: Elephant Man, Collie Buds, Mr. Vegas, Blessed, Trinity Chris, Choclair, Danny Fernandez, Bishop Brigante, Lindo P, and Sample King. He even performed in Springfield, St. Mary Jamaica in 2008.
Mr. Rippaâs love for music makes him a focused and determined artist. He describes his lyrics as creative, funny, and raw. Always prepared for the challenges the reggae and hip-hop industry have to offer. His captivating beats and rhymes is what make him a memorable artiste in the Toronto music industry. Perhaps the most lasting impression of Mr. Rippa is his humility. Although he is becoming a local celebrity, he takes pride in reminding his fans and critics of where he came from and how he got to where he is today. In Mr. Rippaâs opinion, âItâs a team effort! He could not have accomplished any of this without the support of his family, Friends, the Fans, and his hometown Toronto.
