Overview:
Born and raised in San Deigo, CA on March 20, 1986, Sylvia Bernadette Jonna first discovered her singing talent at 10 years old singing Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day on a karaoke machine in her room. A cousin of hers overheard and jokingly said.."Wow, you have an amazing voice, I should manage you." As much as he said it as a half- joke, she took it as the beginning of her legacy as the first chaldean/american female to break into and succeed in the american music industry. She knew then it was her purpose and her one goal in life. She would be a recording artist and make a lasting career out of it. At 16, she started writing her own poetntial hit hip-hop/pop songs with original melodies to match, and at 18 attended the Hollywood Pop Academy where she would then hone her craft and expand her range with dance, vocal performance, vocal technique, and songwriting classes. She then took to the stage with her original song "Caught You Creepin", a hit with a local San diego fan base and her peers at the academy. She first performed it at the pop academy and then at the Blue Haven nightclub in Chula Vista, CA. The crowds went wild at both performances. It was her first taste of stardom and the first time she knew she was meant to be a performer and share her voice with the world. She then performed at the Brick By Brick nightclub in San Diego and was asked by the owner to come back each week and give a performance of her various original recordings. "CaughtYou Creepin" caught the ear of a Mississippi Dj through a promoter Sylvia worked with and he put it on his roster and spun it for 3 weeks of airplay on the main Jackson, MI hip-hop station. She has recieved incredible feedback about her voice and songs from people of all ages..hip-hop fans or not. She entered the BET awards contest where she sang for the gospel performance category. The executive producer was impressed and let her know that she made it to the semi-finals. She then entered the Justin Timberlake Grammy contest and made it to the semi-finals as well. She recently hooked up with west Vibe Publishing in hopes of placing her new hot single, "tequila," recently catching the attention of dj's and fans everywhere...possibly to be placed in hit movies and television along with some more of her upcoming hits. Up-and coming pop sensation Sylvia J. is on her way to really making her mark in the music business as a hot new artist worth listening to.
