A friend of ours was getting married, and she asked that I compose & perform a processional for her wedding. Another friend was graduating from the University, so I composed a small graduation march (which turned into a fugue) as a string quartet to play for him as a surprise during a small dinner my wife gave for him. I already had the Work Series in 6/8 time (or Monkey March, as some called it) kicking around for some time, and I had already started work on a Mid Life Crisis (MLC) Trilogy and a poem about a character called Bob The Sailor Man.

I decided that these events or markers in our lives, these Milestones, might make a good overall concept for a number of themes I had kicking around, and embarked upon the task of arranging & performing these 19 or 20 instrumental impressions using a variety of styles and instruments.

Most gratifying reviews that I have heard are from those listeners that were able to sit back, perhaps in a comfortable room on a Sunday afternoon, and are able to truly relax and allow the music to shape it's way around their own lives and personal stories. I have heard from more than one listener that at the end of this hour, that they have had a truly emotional experience. This is beyond anything I could have hoped for while creating this work, that the sum of the musical experiences could somehow reach beyond the individual tracks, into a richer tapestry of meaning for the soul.
