Mark Weigel and Jeff Webb met at Cornell University in 1987. At the time, Jeff had just gotten to school, and Mark was coming off his first semester, having arrived in January of that year. They found a common interest in music as both played guitar and sang. Another common thread that brought them together was that they had both grown up playing in suburban garage bands. One of Jeff's shining early band moments was when his band won a radio call-in contest, and went into the studio to record with and be directed by Bruce Springsteen's Bass player, Gary Tallant.
After rehearsing during their first semester together, Mark and Jeff developed enough of a set-list to play a coffee-house in the common room at Cornell. The show was a success, and it lined them up to play more gigs. Jeff met Teige Carroll in a Freshman writing seminar. The two became fast friends, and ultimately, Jeff introduced Teige to Mark. The three performed at a couple of coffee-houses before Matt Kane showed up at one, and told them all how good he was at the drums. Matt gets endless sh*t about his introduction to this day. By the time the band found Matt, Teige had already been hanging out with Noah Kornblum on West Campus where the two often played standards and listened to jazz.

The Band's Cornell years were very successful, often playing 3 or 4 times a week. They played Ithaca's live music clubs, including The Haunt and the Nines, as well as many Fraternity houses. Throughout their four years at College, Mark and Jeff continued to play as an acoustic duo in the college-town bars (The Palms, Johnny's Big Red, Rulloff's, and the Chapter House).

By the Spring of 1991, all of the band had graduated, and while the full band's future was not yet determined, Mark and Jeff decided to travel across the country in a VW bus and play small clubs in the state capital cities along the way.

Mark and Jeff ended up in Colorado, and were soon thereafter joined by the rest of the band. They played the Boulder nightclubs and lived in Nederland. Despite developing a respectable following as the year wore on, several members of the band traveled back to the East Coast to pursue other careers. Mark stayed in Colorado over the summer months to play some songwriters circles. Eventually, Mark's ever increasing debts brought him back to the East Coast as well, where he got a job in New York City.

The band is now all working professionals - a Banker, an I/T specialist, a Doctor, a Lawyer and a Financial Accountant - but they still love to play music. Because the band is so spread out around the U.S., it has become increasingly difficult to schedule time when everyone can get together and play. The band did play gigs at Matt's wedding celebration, both Mark's and Jeff's rehearsal dinners, and will play Teige's wedding celebration in early 2002. Mark is planning an album release for late spring of 2007.

"In the Memory of Cain," is a compilation of original material written by Mark Weigel and performed by Mark's college band, The Chowder, and Mark's wife Dyllan. This album follows Mark's previous release, "Green Acres" an all-original solo album of Mark playing the acoustic guitar and singing with Dyllan.

The Chowder includes Teige Carroll on bass and vocals, Matt Kane on drums, Noah Kornblum on piano and organ, and Jeff Webb on guitar, dobro and vocals. The Band now lives throughout the US: New York, Colorado, California. In preparation for the recording session, Mark put together a demo tape for the band. On a weekend in June of 2001, each member flew into New York. The band rehearsed at Mark's on Saturday, and laid down 10 tracks the next day in the studio. The album was recorded in White Plains at Acme Recording Studio in a single nine-hour session. Rory Young of Acme Recording Studios was the engineer on the album.

Some of the tunes on the album are; "My Love (Three Decades, or So)" written by Mark for his wife Dyllan's 30th birthday; "In the Memory of Cain" a song about choice; "A Little Love at Home" a song written in the style of "You're Just in Love" written by Irving Berlin for the musical, Call me Madam; and three wedding songs written for friends and family. The genre of the album is folk pop in the style of James Taylor, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon
