âWhat happened to the boy in the red jumper?â is an album of 14 songs written and produced by me between the years 2000 and 2002. It began in the mid 90s when I began publishing a series of booklets containing poetry and prose. In all, 12 booklets were published in 5 years. None are still in print. Some copies are available thru boutique sellers on the web. All are registered and available in digital or hard copy format from The National Library in Canberra Australia.
Some time in 1999, a friend turned me onto a UK magazine called Computer Music www.computermusic.co.uk - It contained tips and articles on recording music using genre specific software and a home computer. I took to this magazine and the concept of recording digital music like a duck to water. Within a year, I had a full home Mac based studio with the original Cubase 4.1 at the heart. The learning curve was steep, but I learnt fast and as I went along. If something sounded bad, I used the help files to find out why. If I wanted to create a certain effect, I used the help files. Between that and Computer Music magazine I produced the aforementioned album âWhat happened to the boy in the red jumper?â The lyrics came from the poetry booklets Iâd published in the 90s. Most of the music came at the same time as the writing (but at the time of publication I had no way or means of producing the work in a public studio). It all came together when I learnt what was behind the word âCubase.â The rest is history.
Unfortunately, my home based studio crossed the river Styx in 2003. Fortunately, I never followed. However, in the ensuing years since Iâve passed through many critical life points and taken some catastrophic detours that have led me far, far away from the home-based, recording scene. Itâs only been in the last year or so that I feel like Iâm at least back in the ball park. Thanks to that, Iâm pleased to announce the album âWhat Happened To The Boy In The Red Jumper?â is available again.
