Details:
Buddhacore is a rock/metal project infused with the Dharma. We include Buddhist chanting, heavy riff based tracks with big vocals, lots of percussion and some acoustic vibes, and whatever stories and teachings of spirit we find. We are based in Berkeley, California, USA, but we are a modern internet based music collaboration. Shooting tracks all over the place (Tennessee, New Jersey, LA, and back again to Berkeley) for each contributor to do their thing. Hope you dig it and would love to hear of others on a similar path. Peace. Rock. Live.
The Path of Milarepa has been a devotional project that has taken several years and incarnations to come to fruition. It all started when I (Eric Ramstad) received the Milarepa empowerment given by Lama Drupgyu Tenzin at the annual Sukhasiddhi Foundation retreat (a Vajrayana Buddhist center in Fairfax, CA). It was a seminal moment for me and somehow I knew I wanted to do this project. I have been a rock/metal guitarist for a long time, and with the help and vision of friend and brother Paul Baker, began to write tracks and find others who dig it to fill in the drums and vocals. Great auspicious fortune brought us in touch with David Simpson, an amazing vocalist on the East Coast, and he had the time and energy to make it happen. With the final addition of Tony Morra's drumming, the project took shape. After many sonic incarnations, hard dharma lessons, and perseverance, this project has finally come to light.
The Path of Milarepa is a concept album chronicling the amazing life story of Milarepa (the great Tibetan Buddhist yogi-saint). Each song is a chapter in his life and spans the sonic space from betrayal, death and destruction, black magic... to remorse, redemption through suffering, faith.... and finally to the transcendent path of a great Buddhist master. Milarepa's teachings from the 11th century, still resonate with millions of people around the world. I hope this project can be of benefit in some way to those who hear it.
