Out of a four year experimental recording spell, the solo project, Boogie Reverie was born with the completion of the album, Prest. Itâs often hard to believe every sound and production technique in this album was played and recorded by a self-taught Michael Burrus of 21 years. Waves of electric washes rush in and out, in what feels like a journey of the self. In the first three songs, a theme of birth and childhood evolves into an experimental world which somehow stumbles into pop melodies. Towards the middle of the album a progression of young loveâs peaks and pitfalls arises, with a sonic experimental pop mixture of wild talking guitars, playful love songs, and mellow mood pieces. When the album meets its true love in the blissed-out pop song, âSerum Blueâ, the mood of Prest becomes more introspective, mysterious, and questioning. With songs like, âJudas Dancesâ and âHouse of Prayerâ, Boogie Reverie touches on the more vulnerable parts of life, death, and society. The door creaks to a close, ending the album, leaving the listener with a feeling of inspiration and a will to question.
