Details:
Vytear's latest release, Breaks, is in a few words, a love affair with the drum break. It is frantic and fast-paced, yet refined and classic at the same time. Vytear wants his listeners to hear every sonic variation while feeling like they are on an ambulance ride to a local hospital after suffering a stroke. Although a complete departure from his last release, The Great Rubber Audio, Vytear does indulge, from time to time, in what has become the guilty pleasure of melody. He drags us over a rocky terrain of blasting drum breaks and time stretched asphalt and all we can say is "more..."

REVIEWS:

Cyclic Defrost Issue #012 (September 2005)

A couple of years ago I reviewed in these pages a new album by a new artist on a label that was new to me. His first album, The Great Rubber Audio, featured rubbery and complex rhythms and melodic elements that would be familiar to any µ-Ziq or Squarepusher listener of the last 10 years. On Breaks he continues his homage to mid-â90s beat manipulation, but these days the breakcore camp has grown to the extent that thereâs a huge scene doing this stuff. If thereâs a difference with Vytear, itâs the fun that he clearly has doing it. The opening track, âFriends of Jellyâ, is a case in point. Everything, not just the breakbeats, gets cut up and bounced around like balloons filled with, er, jelly. It recalls the best of the Worm Interface releases, or perhaps the fast-paced melodic exuberance of a certain period of Plaid. Thereâs no doubt that Vytear is still going to get described as âsounding likeâ this or that, but itâs no second-rate aping of just one person. While nothing else is quite up to the joyful madness of the first track, Breaks is well-produced and
