Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody a la big band. Also features 5-movement jazz tone poem about a lovely city park.
12 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Big Band, JAZZ: Swing/Big Band
Details:
Ah, ducks and trumpet players: throw âem a little popcorn and youâve got some friends. OK, itâll probably take beer to hook the trumpet playersâ¦
One word to describe the concert captured on this CD: magical. Hereâs another one: fun. It has that thing you want to hear on a jazz CD.
Listen to the samples: the band was on that night, and the enthusiastic crowd was right with them. How can it not feel good when performing in a venue as intimate and beautiful as the historic Garman Opera House, a gem in downtown Bellefonte, PA?
The focal point of this CD is a brand new big band tone poem by composer Rick Hirsch. This five -movement suite, Village Green in Blue: a musical portrait of Talleyrand Park, pays tribute to this lovely city park in the heart of charming Bellefonte, PA.
The performance recorded here was the world premier of Village Green, in Blue. Note: the work was completed only a month before the concert. It doesnât get much fresher than this, folks!
Hirsch, who is also the primary tenor soloist on this CD, also contributed the only-known big band arrangement of Queenâs Bohemian Rhapsody. You have to hear it to believe it.
Lead alto saxophonist Dan Yoder (also Penn State Uâs esteemed Director of Jazz Studies) also contributed wonderful arrangements of Besame Mucho, and The Night We Called it a Day.
Thanks for listening⦠we hope you enjoy the music!
