3 MP3 Songs
POP: Party Pop, KIDS/FAMILY: Kid Friendly
Details:
On January 21st, 2006, a very special little girl called Hayley Okines joined The Kidâs Choir 2000 in Essex, UK to record a song called Voices of Tomorrow.
Hayley is 8 years old and has progeria.
Progeria, is a rare, fatal genetic condition characterized by an appearance of accelerated aging in children. All children with Progeria die of the same heart disease that affects millions of normal aging adults (atherosclerosis), but instead of suffering at 60 or 70 years of age, these children may suffer strokes and heart attacks at 5 or 6 years of age. Remarkably, the intellect of children with Progeria is unaffected, and despite startling physical changes in their young bodies, these extraordinary children are intelligent, funny, and full of life. At present there are about 40 known cases of Progeria around the world and only 4 in the UK
Because progeria is so rare, it attracts very limited funding for medical research with most money going towards researching illnesses and diseases which affect more people like cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
UK, Songwriter Jane was so moved by a program she saw about children with progeria that she decided to try and help ... and writing a song was her natural response. Together with her friend, songwriter and producer Mark Street, they wrote the track - Voices Of Tomorrow.
Jane said, âIâd been in touch with Hayleyâs family for a while and told them I wanted to help. Iâd been toying with song ideas and trying to think of whoâd be best to sing it ââ¬" then whilst at a fete in the summer, I saw a fantastic kidâs choir performing. Instantly, I knew theyâd be perfect and when I approached the choir master Steve Titford, he was delighted to help.â
âBecause progeria is so rare, it attracts very limited finding for medical research with most money going towards researching illnesses and diseases which affect more people like cancer, heart disease and diabetes so all of us involved in the project are committed to helping raise both money and awareness.â
The CD contains 3 tracks plus an 8 minute movie about the making of the single. You can watch the video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqRCKHWY24E
All the profit from this release will go to The Progeria Research Foundation which was established to find the cure for progeria so children like Hayley can look forward to long and healthy lives and be given the chance to realize their hopes and dreams.â
Audrey Gordon is President and Executive Director of the Progeria Research Foundation.
She said, âWe really are making so much progress - we discovered the progeria gene, built the research-related programs needed to get researchers interested and involved, and now have a potential drug treatment being explored. People who support us know that their money is producing results at a pace that is unheard of in the scientific community.
âResearch on Progeria, particularly on its fatal outcome, heart disease, will benefit not only these special children but also millions of people who suffer from heart disease and other aging-related conditions.â
