Details:
The Victoria Lucas are a rock band consisting of bass, two guitars, drums, trombone, theremin, vocals, and occasionally augmented by a rotating cast of other assorted noisemakers. Best described, succinctly enough, as a rock band, the VL's sound runs a long and proud gamut. From standard-bearers like The Velvet Underground and New Order, to tear-in-your-beer country, classic rock, ala The Band and The Faces, Kraut rock, and free jazz, the Brooklyn combo embrace a wide variety of sounds combining them all seamlessly. The band has garnered a healthy buzz in New York that has earned them opening slots with The Mendoza Line, Jon Langford, The Double, The Panthers, Modey Lemon, Tommy Stinson and Don Caballero. They have proudly been a featured show six times this year in Time Out, NY.

The band released their first seven inch, âRegina E. b/w Finley St. Hooker Song,â in October 2003, with production handled by Rick Karr, who has also worked with Will Oldham/Palace, The Royal Trux, and Dolemite, among others.

July of 2006 marks the debut of the Victoria Lucasâs first full-length album, a nine-song CD entitled Hit the Ground Running Fast, to be released on the bandâs own No No No Records. The band entered Studio G in Brooklyn in the spring of 2004 and recorded five songs with former Pere Ubu bassist, Tony Maimone. Almost a year and a half later, after picking up a few more musical drifters along the way, the VL recorded four additional songs with Joshua Ryan (System Recordings) and Eric Emm (Don Caballero) at the Brothers Recording Studio in the fall of 2005. With a basic rock line-up of guitar, bass, and drums lovingly embellished by everything from theremin, organ, piano, and viola to sax, trombone, and trumpet, the resulting album is sonically diverse but uniquely coherent; punk but pop; a dirty Clean (or maybe a clean Clean?); a skronk with honky tonk; âMay the Circle Be Unbrokenâ hit sideways; the sound of a record collection imploding; a joyful noise.

This fall they will be kicking off their first tour of the United Kingdom, with Robert Lloyd's post-punk legends the Nightingales.
