It was a miserable and rainy morning in Newark, NJ as my plane taxied to the runway. I was deep into the songwriting for this album and was struggling with how to put a particular feeling into words: the hope I felt when I lost two people very close to me to chronic diseases. As our flight ascended, we finally burst through the storm clouds and emerged into the brilliant light of the glorious sunrise, unseen from the ground below. As the light flooded the cabin, I knew I had it. Alongside Angels is an album about the soul that has come alive - for beyond these clouds, the skies are ablaze.
