JAZZ: Smooth Jazz, EASY LISTENING: Crooners/Vocals

Details:
Lynda Lybeck is a Northwest Native who has established a strong reputation as one of the leading pianist/vocalists composers in the Northwest adult contemporary easy listening music scene.

Her piano chops reflect a rich history of influences. Years of performing as a pianist, vocalist and arranger for vocal jazz groups, music theater, and serious classical music have influenced her music. What results is a diverse and pleasing mix of jazzy pop and oldies, added to her repertoire of rich, classically oriented original compositions.

LOOKING GLASS, her first CD release (1993) is still a favorite among many fans who love her singing. Her rich alto voice is perfect for the ballads she writes. The sultry tone sits proud among the styles of Bette Midler, Karla Bonoff and Karen Carpenter, or, for the jazz fans, the lovely Irene Krall and Julie London. Her original ballads include âOne Step Forwardâ, a duet with well loved Pacific Northwest jazz vocalist Alyssa Schwary. Itâs about growing up, cutting your losses, and moving on with life. âI Still See Your Faceâ, the original which won the most time in the radio spotlight, mourns the loss of a loved one. âI Wonderâ, which Lynda wrote and sings in Japanese (and English) transports the listener to a far away love affair. And the childlike âCandle Songâ triumphs in its simplicity, and in its message about unconditional love.

BEHIND THE MASK is her second release. Produced at MAH Studios by Michael Allen Harrison, hugely popular Pacific Northwest jazz pianist/composer/producer. Itâs all instrumental, and the reviews were shining. (Check out the bio on Behind the Mask) Long time fans miss her vocals, but new listeners are instantly seduced by the beautiful writing which covers a wide range of color from sunny to melancholy, thoughtful to playful.

AN ALEUT LULLABY is her third, long awaited release, due for release in May 2007. It is a collection of classic jazz greats sung as lullabies, including Nature Boy, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Hushabye Mountain, and much more. Produced entirely in the wild frontier of Alaska, this exquisite piano/vocal collection is well worth waiting for.

As a performer, Lynda has performed as a solo pianist and pianist/vocalist in Norway, Japan, Turkey, and the Western United States from Albuquerque to Seattle, including stints in Hawaii and Dutch Harbor, Alaska.. As a composer, her credits include a movie score for âCartwheelâ, an art film produced by Scott Jackman, âFlowersâ produced by John Day, and several commercial spots. Her heartbreaking âBroken Doveâ is a choral piece written on September 11, 2001, which was performed by college, church and community choral groups from Alaska to Nevada the weekend following the tragic event. It was published by the General Board of Directors of the United Methodist Church. Sheet music and a recording may be accessed on Lyndaâs website.

Lynda Lybeck married in 2002, and, with her husband, is raising their two sons on a small island in the Aleutians off the coast of Alaska. her website is www.lyndalybeck.net
