Austinâs Lomita is the soulful AM radio soundtrack to what it feels like to careen a speeding Cadillac off a cliff with whiskey stench on your breath thinking about your girl who is a no good cheating she-devil that ripped your heart from your chest a hundred miles ago.
The band displays their true love and addiction to all quality music as they weave in and out of genres incorporating the dust storm desert country sounds of Big Starâs Third/Sister Lovers record, the beautiful chaos rock of Sonic Youth, the layered shoegaze ambiance of Mogwai, the dance rock flamboyance of Billy Idol, the straight up vintage motorcycle rock of Davie Allen and The Arrows, and topped off with shimmers of Krautrock legends Neu!
Through their commitment to honesty and their limitless creative whirlwinds Lomita have birthed a new genre: country-shoegaze-dance-freakout-motorcycle-soul-rock to drink, fuck, or shoot yourself to.
Lomitaâs instrumentation is as diverse as their influences; the band employs lap and pedal steels, a musicianâs wet-dream of guitars and a complex little city of effects pedals, several electric pianos, bass, and drums. With all these options in the capable hands of some of the finest young musicians the sounds created are beautifully thick, haunting, intense, soulful, and ecstatic all at the same time.
All of their talents and creative energies collide at their most arrestingly powerful points during the live shows. There are few bands that know equally well how to incite a feverish dance riot, drown the crowd in whisky tears, as well as unleash an orgy of instrumental feedback breakdowns.
The band has released their debut full length, Stress Echo, in April of 2005 which has been re-released on Indierect Records (August 2006) following the sell-out of the initial pressing. They are currently hard at work on tracking and mixing material for an another full-length for early 2007 while touring the country with their relentless live shows.
