Review By Dana B.

Fusing jazz, pop, ballads and blues this one is a musical rendezvous. Featuring a blend of the old and new, eclectic music is a hallmark of New Tribe. The CD includes six original pieces including; the soulful ballad Bella Luna, the socially conscious Strange World, and the hauntingly beautiful Swim Away. The opening number, Wild Roses, is a crowd favorite dance tune sure to get your body moving. The universal message in Do Not Fear and Choose the Upside speaks to our elemental selves. The ââ¬ËTribalizedâ covers run from a jazzed up version of the classic Summertime, to an impassioned rendition of True Colors, to the quirky lyrics and catchy tag line of The Bike. Their blend of instrumental inspiration with the rich heartfelt vocal stylings of Ms Lane fills the air with a vibrant energy and lust for life. Hear samples of the music on their website: www.newtribemusic.com The Band: Amy Black-percussion, Pamela Green-Guitar, percussion and background vocals, Barbara Lane-Vocals, David J. Lane-Keyboard and Vocals.

Biography

During the hot and sticky dog days of 2003, before they even had a collective name, a group of musicians took the stage at St. Petersburgâs (FL) Palladium auditorium and performed the well-known Gershwin piece, Summertime. Towards the end of the performance, it became apparent that New Tribeâs Summertime was something fresh.

Barbara Lane, lead vocalist, had assembled an eclectic group of musicians, who took the stage that night as one of the entries in the talent competition known as Night of the Stars sponsored by MCC King of Peace Church. They were so well received that the judges awarded them first prize. NEW TRIBE was born. A few changes have occurred since the inception, but none have compromised the essence of the group, which values diversity in its members and its music. Each member has a distinctive musical heritage, which they have learned to blend into âtribalisedâ renderings of songs from numerous genres. They have also been successful with melding their individual songwriting abilities into a varied array of original music.

NEW TRIBEâs eclectic nature has enabled them to share their music with quite a diverse array of individuals. They have performed for the Junior League of St. Petersburgâs annual Fundraiser âCelebrate the Seasonâ, the Wyndham Resort at Harbor Island, the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, First Unity Church of St. Petersburg, Carrollwood Village Fest, Carrollwood Country Club, Jacksonâs Bistro; and they were the opening act at the Crescendo Womenâs Chorus "It Begins with Me" concert. Finally, they have entertained many visitors to the Gold Dragon Art Gallery in South Tampa, where they held concerts once each month in 2004.

NEW TRIBEâs hard work and vision have brought forth into this universe a new precious gem --- their debut CD "It Had to Be Said". However, this is only the beginning. Not only will they continue to infuse the Tampa Bay scene with their unique energy at local festivals and events, but they are also looking for a new home base in the area where they can welcome even more loyal Tribeniks into their family of fans. Now here are two bits of excitement...listen up...New Tribe has been getting some play on local station WMNF...and there will likely be some singles generated from "It Had to Be Said", which means..... REMIXES! (and âB-Sidesâ) Davy does like his dance tunes. So, for those who adore "Wild Roses" and "Get It Together", keep your club clothes on, because Barbara, Pam, Amy and Davy will be keeping you on your toes!
