NPT's guitar-driven brand of rock'n'roll is melodic and harmonic enough to call you back to the days of white albums and pet sounds, while the bass floats playfully around the fretboard, inspiring you to get up and MOVE.
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
"What do you guys sound like?"
Every single musician in a band is faced with that question, and every single one bristles at the prospect of answering it. Mention another band's name and you're forever linked to them, while being judged over their accomplishments rather than your own. Trying to evade the question by mentioning a fusion of genres and you're met with blank stares. So as Newspaper Taxi gets ready to release their first full-length album entitled "Shut Up and Listen", they're quite aware of that most oft-asked question that's about to be asked of them:
"What DOES Newspaper Taxi sound like?"
Well, being influenced by every part of Canada (two parts Prairie, one part City-kid, and one part Maritimer, if you're mixing the cocktail), Newspaper Taxi grew from the humble beginnings of basement parties to such esteemed venues as the Kee-to-Bala in Muskoka, the Edge 102.1 studios, Healey's, the Hard Rock, Lee's Palace, the Rivoli, and the Horseshoe Tavern. Places where if you don't sound good, you don't get asked to come back. Places where the album "Shut Up and Listen" fits like a glove.
"So they sound good. But what do they sound LIKE?"
Their guitar-driven brand of rock n' roll is melodic and harmonic enough to call you back to the days of white albums and pet sounds, while the bass (pushed to the front in the mix, because that's where the bass SHOULD be!) floats playfully around the expanse of the fretboard, often inspiring audiences to get up and MOVE.
"Sounds intriguing. You're avoiding the question."
Indeed. Well, if forced to, they might say they sound something like what music "should be".
Otherwise, they'd just say "Shut Up and Listen".
