Emily Nyman bio information
Emily has been writing and performing original songs since 1978. Her musical foundation includes classical piano and folk guitar. During her high school years, Emily developed her musical talents in the Wareham High School Choir and the Young Time Players Community Theater. During the 1980's, Emily performed regularly in various restaurants and lounges in the Upper Cape Region and UMASS Amherst area. From the 1990's to present, she has continued performing part-time at Coffeehouses, fund-raisers, theatre productions, and private functions in the Northeast Kingdom area of Vermont. Unique endeavors include annual musical collaboration with the North Country Union High School Dancers and provision of music for Hospice patients and their families. Emily has appeared on the CBS/WCAX Morning Music Showcase on two occasions. She currently teaches Guitar and Piano classes at the Community College of Vermont.
Lynn Berry made her writing debut in 1973, co-authoring a collection of poems in "Double Take." This book also features Lynn's artwork. Lynn has been writing since childhood and has created volumes of life-based poems. She continues to explore visual arts through personal studio work, participation in local art exhibits, and as an instructor of Fine Arts at the Community College of Vermont. Twice she has won recognition as best in show. Lynn met Emily in 1990, while Emily was interning as a Guidance Counselor under Lynn's direction. When Lynn shared her poems and Emily shared her music, a songwriting team was born.
"First One", released in February of 1998, is a collection of original songs based on Lynn's poems about growing up, family, love, and loss. Emily assembled her own home recording studio, and learned all aspects of Compact Disc pre-production to make the album a reality. Emily provided all instrumentation and harmonies, utilizing keyboard, guitar, and vocal talents. In May 2003, Emily and Lynn released "Outside the Lines". Filled with poetic lyrics, soothing vocals, and expressive piano and guitar, this collection portrays the search for freedom and the desire to live in a peaceful, accepting world. This CD features "Shouting Out a Whisper: Quiet Protest" which received national airplay on the one year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Both Lynn and Emily fund their recording projects with their "day" jobs. They are both full time guidance counselors.
