Marcus "Nottie Dread" Owens was born in Novascoitca, Canada in 1974. He spent ten years in canada before moving to Norfolk, VA in 1984. Experienced His first hip-hop concert event in 1985 when he saw Run-DMC, Erik B. & Rakim, Public Enemy and Doug E. Fresh live. When Run-DMC took the stage Dread Instantly knew what he wanted to do...
Nottie Dread than started to write hiphop songs in 1985, and as the years went by, his passion for the music got deeper. As his skills advanced he started recording with bushman productions in 1992 in Brooklyn, NY...Reoove was the first group that Dread Started......After having minor success in NYC, Dread took his venture back to VA, Northern VA to be exact around the DC Area.....1993 Dread assembled a new group called Kaodic recipe.....after years of recording and little success following, Dread made moves to Tallahassee, FL where he linked up with DJ D-Lo and DJ Demp from FLorida State's Radio Station 88.7.....Dread Performed at the Moon and various other venues including FAMU homecomming.....in 1999 Dread Left florida once again embarkig on a new journey to Jacksonville, NC.....after a long drawed the fuck out learning experience, Dread Started Soul Unique with Mr. Bubblegum Pop Man himself George Tobin, a well known veteran in the music industry....The two were like night and day, dread being more adventurous, while George wanted to work with what he thought would work......George didnt care to broaden his horizon, so Dread Made Power moves out of Bubblegum stardom, but met many very important and talented engineers and influences in the industry....after a brief period of rest, Dread introduced to Durham Based Producer and CEO of Smitty Productions, E. Smitty has lived in ct, ny, mass, & nc so he has seen a little of everything. Smitty graduated from St. Thomas More, a top catholic prepatory school in eastern, ct, in 2000. After STM, E. Smitty took his venture to North Carolina ....Even with much adversity, and the temptation of a criminal life E. Smitty still single handedly sold & distributed more than 15,000 cd's throughout nc, va, & sc....during the summer 2004 e. smitty & partner swiggady were invited to âthe studio to the stage tourâ featuring swiggady & smitty, other favorites like p-wonda, & celinski.
