MY COMMENTS & INFORMATION ABOUT THE CD

Aloha, this is Nick, testes one, two. Ha ha! First of all, Id like to say that sanity is over-rated!!! Being a lunatic gives you a certain bizarre freedom. Anyway, this CD is a quasi-concept album about a day the life at the Psych Ward. It is framed by three instrumentals. This is because 1) Im crazy and 2) it invites the listener to use a little imagination. These songs deliberately reflect Asylum life. While you listen, picture this. The forced regimen of confinement, screeching cries of pure insanity; shaking from the DTs. People who wont talk. People that wont shut up. Anger, violence, and all and all, a heap load of fun! In some ways, it actually borders on hilarity. By the way, as for the vocal songs, some relate to the concept and some are just great tunes; wondrous and beautiful like the twilight realm of your own secrets thoughts. (Or whatever.) Anyway, since the songs are so diverse, I took the liberty of giving each song a Psych Ward Rating. 0- Has no Psych Ward value, 1) Slightly crazy, 2) Moderate insanity 3) Extreme lunacy, and 4) Total lunacy (Which could include a total detachment from reality, whatever that is?) Remember, some of the great minds and artists were considered Certified Lunatics.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson

This is how this project started. I was in my forth Psych Ward in six months. Lets just say I have issues. Basically, life at the Psych ward is, for the most part, pretty boring, like You can sit here in the waiting room or you can wait here in the sitting room type boring. But, as they say, Fire here, possible cookout, it can get totally bizarre at any time. (I had quite a few episodes myself.) But back to the story. In the sitting room was an old out of tune piano. An inmate/patient was playing some avant-garde stuff. I walked over and tried to ad lib some vocals. It sounded pretty (good in a Psych Ward kinda way). Later that evening, I find out they also have a guitar in this strange place they call "the back." I busted it out and started singing and playing. Everyone seemed to be impressed, which of course didnt surprise me a bit. (Coloring book, crayon type pictures impress this crowd.) The next day, that guy playing the piano approached me. I find out hes Tristan Giallani, this extremely talented and world-renowned record producer and distributor. (You may have heard of him from such hits as Hip Hop Hawaii or maybe Jerusalem Records. Affectionately known world wide as Jerusalem on the Jukebox.) Anyway what he was doing at the Psych Ward is his story to tell! We talked and joked about some of the other lunatics. There was The Bride of Frankenstein who constantly screamed screechingly at the top of her lungs. Little Tommy One Sock, he was the really quiet type until on day he just went off. He even was punching the Security Guard. He was restrained, sedated, and placed into the rubber room that had the big gold key. (Personally, I was quite proud of the boy.) There was Shakey Sean, (drug and alcohol withdraw), Johnny Mumbles, who oddly would not admit that he mumbled to himself. I would say "what did you say?" He would say like the tar baby, I say nothin. Also there was this old kook who used to walk through the common room after he showered with a babys arm holding an apple. (Fortunately he was finally restrained and sedated, God be praised.)

We then started talking music, then possible production. I had already written and recorded several songs in my magical recording studio in my mind. (No, I actually do have a recording studio, honest.) Out of that came the concept and songs for this CD and Psych Ward Records. Scary Huh? Tristan, being a careful businessman, asked me to sign a Sanity Clause. Like a good Sicilian, I replied, "hey you no foola me, there aint no Santy Claus." (Chico Marx) Enough already!!! Below is a list of songs with a few comments from me. Aloha, Nickster.

All songs are written, sung, arranged and produced by Nick Conti and Psych Ward Records except Simple Phrase which was written by Nick Conti and Aleta Riggs.

Artwork and graphics created by Tristan Giallani. Photography by Kenny Haven & Rich James.

Special Thanks to the late, great Frank Zappa. As my musical idol, he gave me the courage to do this CD right; professional yet irreverent. Also thanks to Danny Elfman. Firesign Theatre, The Marx Brothers, Warren Zevon, Carlo Carocci, Dick, and anyone else I stole lines from. Also to my children, Dana & Dan. I love you.

PARTNERS N' CRIME!!! I know that Im crazy, but I still believe in Personal Freedoms.

Psychwardrecords.com or Partnersncrime.com is also a place where you can download, for free, the song, Partners n Crime and also view the words. All of you who have lived in fear & secrecy because you choose to smoke pot, lets get together; standing together to end this hypocrisy. We are not criminals! Our government does not own our lungs and minds! The 4th Amendment, Right to Privacy, was inserted so our government & militia would not overtake the lives of innocent people. I dont have all the answers, but, I do have a medical marijuana license from the State of Hawaii. Even then, I feel Im taking a risk by speaking out. They have us all scared and fragmented; living in secrecy for something we choose to do for ourselves.

Some smoke it for recreation like alcohol; for some, its for meditation to commune with their God; for some, its medication for pain, nausea, and suffering; and, to boot, no one has ever overdosed from it!!!, unlike other drugs, including pharmaceuticals & alcohol. Please send me any suggestions you have. Together we can end this hypocrisy & end this prohibition. With your help, maybe we can. Somehow?

Land of the free and the home of the brave. How can we be brave and free. Lets do it! Miracles happen every day. Enjoy the free download. Share it with your friends. If youd like you can purchase Partners n crime shirts & stuff. Show our solidarity. Maybe it can help unite us? Make these websites a rallying point for sharing ideas. (Some of us are really smart). Remember, share it with youre friends. Lets get together and may your God protect us. Legalize Marijuana.

Song Titles And My Comments

1. Shakin it Up - the question is, is it a love song or a spiritual song? Is it about faith and willingness or is it about me and some chick, shakin it up all night? Your choice. Danny Steiner plays drums. Nick Conti performs everything else.
2. Let Me Touch Your Soul - Just a reminder that were all connected (at the wrist and ankles, ha ha). Lead guitar was played by Tony Brayton, Hoku Award winning guitarist from The Joe Battery Band, and the shreadingest guitarist I know. He totally jams, and jams, and jams. (You'll see). Danny Steiner plays drums. Nick Conti performs everything else.
3. Early Wake-up, Blood Pressure Check and Medication At the Psych Ward - Every morning starts out this way. This song is the first instrumental and a spacey one at that. It starts with the brisk wake up and then the expanding of the blood pressure device. Slowly. Arteries and veins pumping. It reaches the fullest and you can hear the heart pumping, pumping. Then the slow release begins. My medication is soon delivered and I come down, down, spiraling downward as the meds take affect. Ahhh! The nice little guitar solo at the end illustrates this. (Use your imagination.) !!! Nick Conti performs everything.
4. In This Daze - Women can really rattle your brain. We were in love until she left me for the Tye Boe instructor. Blue feeling to the maximum. !!! Nick Conti performs everything.
5. Partners n Crime - This is my legalize marijuana anthem and soon to be a nation wide phenomenon. I guess our government owns our lungs and mind too. Enough of this hypocrisy. They cant make us people criminals, Partner. All my partners n crime, lets standdtogether!!! Nick Conti performs everything.
6. A Typical Day at the Psych Ward - This instrumental most typifies a place where insanity reigns. And this song gets insane. First, its a beat off. Also, when the phone rings, the patients get freaked out and no one answers it. We wait for the Security Guard, who by the way, always seems to be watching me, to answer it . The song has this really nice Celtic type part in the middle for some unknown reason, and then comes the backwards guitar, of course. Always in the background is the ominous synth sound that depicts the undercurrent of confinement. Nick Conti plays everything.
7. The Tinhead Pirates - A basic song about a wizard who enslaves the mightiest warriors in the land (The Tinhead Pirates), and takes over the world kinda song. This is my masterpiece. Hoku Award winner Tony Brayton plays the mournful lead guitar. Danny Steiner plays drums. Nick Conti plays the rest.
8. Simple Phrase - an eerie song about the use and misuse of the simple phrase, I love you. Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
9. Fallin - A tender love song about a beautiful young lady I fell madly in love with. Unfortunately, she turned into a crack whore. (The story of my life). Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
10. Care For Me - Okay, I admit it. I need some help! Im just to nuts to care for myself. I actually was so depressed I didnt shower for six weeks. I was just to depressed. Maybe the nurses care? (Sure, most of them are jaded , Nurse Rachet type control freaks. Anyway, its a great tune. Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
11. Relaxation Time at the Psych Ward - This instrumental depicts the ½ hour of relaxing time every evening except Saturdays. We get to watch a Psych Ward approved movie. (Whoopee!). No one actually attends but me, so I did my novena like a good Sicilian boy. Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
12. Starlite Serenade - Another tender love song about this tourist chick I met. Two weeks of wild times, then she goes home. Cant beat it!!. Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
13. Serpents on the Beach - Sorry about the sound quality. I did this about 15 years ago on a little 4-track recorder. Its a song about a guy sitting on the beach and all the people start turning into serpents, (This is intended to depict the phoniness we all portray.) Nick Conti plays all parts including some serious lead guitar, authentic serpent noises, and a part towards the end where the serpent is actually chasing the guitar player. Its to psycho to leave of the CD.
14. Have a Happy Life - This is a crowd favorite & full of shits & giggles. It gives you a way for all of us, (and we all know someone that fits the bill), to, in a nice way, get rid of people or persons that you want to avoid or even people whove fucked with you). Its a peppy little ditty that will make you want to skip and laugh and a must for anyones collections. I know youll be surprised! Everything is performed by Nick Conti.
15. Back in the Psych Ward Again - performed by Nick Conti.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the project. If not, have a happy life!!! No seriously, I say again with Earnestness, (who ever the hell he is.)

"Be cool. And if you cant be cool, be yourself." (get it?) Aloha ha-ha-ha. Nickster
