Chicago native Nicki G started singing Pop/R&B music at the age of 4. She was the only student from NW Indiana to be accepted into the All-State Honor Choir, Nicki was featured as a soloist every year in her high school choirs, won school talent shows 6 consecutive years, and performed the National Anthem at local high school and minor league sporting events.
Her success in music during school earned her a music scholarship from Columbia College Chicago, where she pursues studies in Vocal Performance and Music Business. In addition, Nicki has choreographed numerous floor routines and stage productions since the age of 11. She has won 4 National Titles from the National Dance Association.
Nicki made it to the 3rd round of American Idol 2, and also made the reinvented Star Search in April of 2003--unfortunately, it got cancelled. Nicki maintained a professionalâs take: âItâs okay, everything in life happens for a reason. I will get there eventually through all my hard work! God has a different plan for me thatâs all!â
In March 2003 things started to look up for the singer. Her video audition performance appeared on the Wayne Brady Show for making the top 10 finalists out of over 20,000 contestants in the Rock the House talent search. In May 2003 she appeared on MTVâs Duets as a contestant for the Vanessa Carlton episode. She was awarded for several open mic night competitions in the area.
2004 was good to Nicki G. She performed in February at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas for the USA World Showcase. LIVE on FOX News ran a feature on Nicki, covering her status as one of 5 finalists for Chicago Idol. On a separate Fox story, she was featured on the bill along with Kanye West, WGCI, and ICEE Records, on the Making it Big in Chicago segment on FOX News. She appeared at a Cancer benefit dance-a-thon at the University of Illinois-Champaign. Even more impressive, Nicki penned two songs with the highly successful L.A.-based team Harry Maslin and Michele Maslin-Vice.
Nicki G recently finished her debut album entitled Nicki G Versatility, which has topped the Broadjam charts and contests in every category. In February 2005 Nicki G was appointed Grand Prize winner of all genres for her soon to be hit Caught You Lookinâ, in the Madison Songwriterâs Group annual contest. She also won the pop/rock genre and placed fourth in Hip-Hop/R&B. Nicki G was nominated one of the five finalists in the Yamaha Song Contest. July 1, 05 Nicki was deemed runner-up in Region Idol consisting of Chicagoland contestants, and was interviewed on local TV stations and newspapers.
Summer 2005 was booked for Nicki G. She played all over the Midwest leading Georgia Street Band. She also sat in with the TellStars for several gigs and recording sessions, and had the honor to play with Chupito, the percussionist from Santana, and Malo featuring Jorge Santana. Nicki will be featured on their next album covering The Game of Love, and an original Only You. She was also featured at the Chicago Daley Plaza, Pertillo Band Shell where countless stars have performed, and the legendary Apollo Theatre.
Fall 2005 was one busy season! Nicki G released Versatility to the public at a very successful CD Release Party. Along with being busy writing and recording her next album, Nicki performed at the Athenaeum Theatre, Chicago with the 3 A Dance Collaborative, a collaboration put together by 3 Chicago dance companies. In April 2005 Nicki was the featured artist for Columbia Collegeâs Open House held in the Auditorium Theatre. Nicki G was asked to perform "We'll See You in Your Dreams" again at the theatre as the featured artist in Columbia College's Open House representing the entire Music Department. She has since then been asked back each semester since then to represent the Music Department and is performing LIVE at the Auditorium October 28, 2006. Nicki G was, and will be again, backed by a full band, video clips, 70+ person chorus, and the Cerqua-Rivera Dance Company.
Winter 05-06 turned out to be very successful. Nicki was asked to be a part of the Chicago based soul band, World Class Noise. Also, she performed in the Region Rumble as a guest star at the Star Plaza Theatre! To wrap up the year, NICKI G VERSATILITY was deemed Top 10 Local music in 2005!!!!
2006 thus far has been very eventful for Nicki. She is currently writing and recording her Sophomore album entitled, Nicole Garza, âNicki G, REINVENTED.â Furthermore, she has been performing as the lead singer with the very successful band, World Class Noise, www.worldclassnoise.com. Some places include: Bulls United Center, White SOX US Cellular Field, Skyline Stage Navy Pier, Beer Garden Stage Navy Pier, Arlington Racetrack, Lawrence University, The Green Dolphin Street (Chicagoâs Finest Jazz Club), Triton College, Lewis University, Downtown Bank Club, and several summer festivals all throughout Illinois, Inidiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Nicki also entered into a contest to sing the Walter E. Smithe commercial, and she won! She recently taped the commercial with the Smithe Brothers, and will be appearing in future commercials soon. One of Nicki Gâs biggest honors of Summer 2006 was singing God Bless America and the National Anthem for September 17thâs Chicago CUBS game. Only 35 Americans get the honor to sing at a CUBS game each season, and Nicki was one of those lucky Americans.
