OC Register......CD Review by Robert Kinsler
"It's a rare gift for an artist to write and perform songs that can be as insightful and uplifting as they are infectious and memorable....such is the gift of Niki Smart"
Voted one of the top local releases in the 90's.
Live Magazine Review - Dec 2002 for "Seems so Peculiar"
Several times I have sat down to write this review and have been stopped by just how I would describe this artist. Niki Smart's debut album, Seems So Peculiar, has struck a familiar chord within me. The thing that caught my attention the most were the mystifying lyrics. Niki has found the ability to touch the core of those who are fortunate enough to hear her. Niki produces a strong reflection of what sheâs trying to convey. She paints an emotional, magical picture with these words, "I climbed the mountain and I touched the sky. I held the wind in my hands and I heard the world cry. I heard the first soft screams from the trees."
She offers these inspirational stories through her eight song message. The strength portrayed through her music gives the listener a connection to what they have inevitably felt before. It all falls and ties LIFE together. "What if we never learn more than we need to survive...what if we never give back to what we take from life....in the end it all comes down you to." The idea that if this IS as good as it gets, there are things that can be done to make life complete.
Keep it up Niki, and weâll be with you--all the way...
