Every so often the music industry undergoes resurgence, and quite often a virtually unknown artist or group is single-handedly responsible for refocusing the attention of the entire nation onto its fledgling city. The same rebirth currently unfolds in the city of Jacksonville: in its streets, it clubs, and throughout the airwaves of its local radio stations. Music is life here and the following personality is an example of Jacksonville's prowess for gifted performers.
The Next Level Production Group and Management Team is proud to present recording artist Annissa "Ni'ssa" Thomas.
Standing just 5 ft & 4 inches, the eye candy like appearance of this petite little lady should not be underestimated. She packs quite a punch. A mixture of street sense, class, and sex appeal combine to create a new generation emcee whose marketability will undoubtedly add depth to any recording artist roster, but preferably to one with shared enthusiasm for the explosion of the southeastern United States as it relates to rap music.
"Ni'ssa" was born Annissa "X" in Jacksonville, Florida during the winter of 1974. Relocating to Tucson, Arizona ten years later. It was not until 1990 at the age of sixteen that she was first bitten by the need to emcee. It came on the heels of mentor and family member D.J. Ready Red, former member of the rap group Ghetto Boys, who introduced the youngster to the art form. Under the influence of acts such as Salt N' Pepa, Tupac, Queen Latifah, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dog, Ni'ssa found herself working with a variety of up and coming artist / producers which in turn honed her distinctive rhyme style and silky delivery.
During this stint in Tucson, Ni'ssa performed at the Buena Vista Theatre winning top honors in a competition composed of male competitors, opened for California natives Cypress Hill in addition to recording artist Lil Troy, recorded with R&B artist L.V. of the Gangster's Paradise collaboration with Coolio, and was also featured on recording artist's Swindoe's album.
Her very last relocation has brought her back to the sunshine state where she quickly hit the streeets of Jacksonville making noice within the underground hip-hop scene. With continual airplay on 92.7 The Beat, numerous victories versus local talent, a full feature on "The Philly Brouwn" entertainment television show, and a more than stellar performance on the "Exposure Mixxxtape" Ni'ssa is poised to bring home the crown.
In the midst of jump starting her career, Ni'ssa has also found incentive by giving back to her community: completing musical compositions for non-profit organizations like the Barbara Bush Foundation's "Project Lift" and educational rap collective "The Funkamentals".
Her determination is fueled by the need to demonstrate to the female gender and children that accomplishment is nothing more than settings goals and making an effort. Her wish to succeed was once a solo journey, but with time, maturity, and understanding has blossomed into quite a bit more than music. She welcomes the opportunity.
