Plughole is what you get when you let lose a pack of monkeys into a junkyard, leave them there for half-an-hour, and then put the results through a blender. Frantic and harsh at times, yet with elements of that elusive monkey tenderness ocasionaly shining through.
The truth is that no monkeys are actually used in the music creation process, due to financial constraints. Infact, Plughole is really just one bloke called Dave, based in both the south-east and the south-west of England, who likes making less-than-pretty noises.
Dave (full name: David Paul Board) first started writing music when he was 14, tending towards crafting cheesy jazz peices and generic sounding trance music. However, before long he had discovered the sounds of Nine Inch Nails, which inspired him to delve into the harsher side of electronica. Aiming to emulate the styles of Industrial pioneers such as Skinny Puppy and K.M.F.D.M, Dave spent the next few years of his life experimenting with technology and seeing exactly what he could create.
Plughole's debut album, 'Crank', is the result of all this. It merges thumping drum patterns, ear-splitting distortion and heavy bass lines with tender, melodic synths and ambient soundscapes. Sure, it draws upon the work of other Industrial artists, but David hopes that he has managed to imbue the music with something that is purely his own.
